Interested to know about duration of "side effects" as a result of pelvic radiation. I am undergoing IMRT and about 40% through. Thanx for your info/advice.

Side effects will be mild to moderate fatigue for about 4 to 6 weeks. There may be some cramping and diarrhea during treatment at about three quarters of the way thru but may not happen after treatment. Healing cells start to grow at about 4 to 6 weeks. There should not be any other effects thereafter. Hope this helps.

Hi, I had pelvic radiation, due to rectal cancer, which ended in 2000. I had a burned bladder from the radiation and had bleeding from the colon during the treatments. I still do not have the energy that I had prior to the treatments. The radiation depressed the bone marrow in the pelvis and it has not recovered and I have a very low white count due to it. I am told that the white count should have responded by now and since it has not, it will probably not do so.
Have you gotten chemo with your radiation?? I had mine simultaneously and became toxic from the combination and then had to finish the chemo after the radiation.
What kind of cancer are you dealing with??
Good luck to you. Get plenty of rest.
