Leiomyosarcoma

My father was recently diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma and although we have been to and he is currently being treated by Sarcoma specialists we are still feeling frustrated that no one (including his oncologist) will give us the stage of the cancer or any sort of life expectancy.  His tumor is large(9-12inches) and in the abdomen and is tied up in the iliac artery so surgery is not possible at this time, it is also considered aggressive.  He has started chemo therapy but the oncologist said that he is not a candidate for radiation because of the size/location of the tumor.  All the Dr keeps saying is that it is very serious---- obviously we think it's Stage IV but would like an actual medical confirmation of this.  Has anyone else had this sort of frustration or do you have any tips to get answers???  I know the answers won't extend my dad's life but it would be good to know.

Thanks

Regards your dad with leiomyo sarcoma in the iliac area I was diagnosed in nz I have leiomyosarcoma in the small bowel which is extremely rare I am told. My first indication of anything wrong was a burst bowel which resulted in major emergency surgery in late 2007.A resection of the small bowel was carried out and it was succesful but the bursting caused concern because of the nature of the disease. A recurrence occurred in april 2008 and I had further surgery in july 2008. There was a small mass on the abdominal wall and and five other sites. I made an outstanding recovery and had a further scan in january. I still do not have the results but feel fantastic and I can't imagine that I am sick it is crazy. I have not been offered any other treatment as I was told leiomyo is unresponsive to chemo or radiation. I need to know more about this as I would like some options if I could.

Good luck and good health to you

Hi  I was diagnosed with LM  August 2007.  I am at stage 4 with the cancer in my lungs, pelvis and uterine wall.     I  have had sugery to remove the uterus, chemo and radiation.  I am also doing acupuncture and  an Iv treatment of Mistletoe twice weekly.   Has anyone tried these alternative therapies.   Any suggestions    .   Wishing all well and keep strong.   My GP's  mother had LM and lived for 7 years dying from something else. I am about to try Avastin .   Any comments on this drug

 Penny
