Subject: Hope Your Dad is Feeling Better
Date: 02/27/2006
Thank you for your message. To tell you the truth my husband has had such success with his surgery we are amazed. His only problem is sleeping. He doesn't know if it is from the surgery or possibly how it may have effected his mental out look. He hasn't said but I know he believes his life span is shorten because of the surgery. So there is a little depression going on. Our Dr has given him some meds to help with sleep but he doesn't like to take them. Our bodies are all different and I am sure it depends on your over all health at the time of a major surgery like this. I will keep your dad in my prayers to help ease his pain. I say prays of thanks that I don't have to see my husband suffer.

I had my whipple on April 13, 2006. As of today I have constant numbness/pain in the area just below the incision. It seems the more I walk the more it hurts. When I am resting it does not effect me that much. I have been through MRI,Ct, Upeer Gi, and nothing has been found. Oncologist said it may be Frayed nerves of which 1 in 10,000 people get. I just want to know what it is and get it fixed.

Dear Sir,

The whipple is the "granddaddy" of surgeries so it may take several more months until you feel right again. My father had the whipple and he had pain up to a year later. Everyone is different. Has your doctor recommended a celiac plexus block yet?? It is a procedure where they burn the nerves with a liquid solution to block any pain you are having. It took a few tries with my dad but it did offer some results. You may want to look into having a pain management doctor as well as your oncologist to manage your pain. Take care of yourself and I hope you find a solution for your pain.

Good Morning...My husband is 56 a 4 time cancer survivor and will be having the WP on  2/2/07 at WVU Hospital. Never a smoker drinker or drug user. Has retained his athletic lifestyle, happily married 39 years, educated and no prior family history. Doctors seem to think  his cancers are enviormental.  Since 1972 he averages a "bout"every 6.5 years.  Last being liver in 2000.  Sloan Kettering did the liver resection. He now has a stent in his liver to the pancress to open the bowel duct to rid the jaudice.  It's just a  bandaid. The tumor on his pancress is blocking the bowl duct. We're now home on a high protein diet.  We'll be doing alot of walking in place of his daily swimming and weight lifting. God has always been our healer. So glas I found this web site.  Good Luck to you.
