I went thru chemo for breast cancer and I went bald after my first treatment. Very tired and  irritable all the time. A feeling of tired that you really cannot describe utill you have experienced it. I had bad night sweats (still do). Just make sure to protect yourself every way that you can for your own health. I bought and wore mask from the time I started chemo till I was done with radiation. That was from september 2006 till april 2007. I went thru treatment during flu season too the mask seemed to help. This was the toughest thngs I have ever been thru and hope it is the last.  Gather the friends and family around you that really care about you and what is going on with you. Let people know what they can do for you and your family.

Everyone reacts differently to chemo and, of course, a lot depends upon what chemo combination you're receiving also.  I had Adriamycin and Cytoxin and had no side effects and no problems while receiving same.  It was the same when they gave me Taxotere.  Others have many side effects.  I consider myself very lucky to have had none.  Ask your oncologist what side effects you may experience, but don't expect to experience all. Hopefully, you'll not have any side effects.

 Good luck with your treatment.

If your insurance will let you, I had accupucture treatments along with the chemo and it helped to eleviate the symtoms.  My oncologist said he wished more of his patients had accupucture treatments along with chemo.  I do reccomend letting anyone and everyone who wants to help, help!  Not only does it ease the stress on you, but it helps your loved one feel better when they are helping.  Also, I did not fight the effects of chemo, I went with the flow knowing that the medicine was doing it's job.  I used visual immagery, seeing the chemo eat up all the cancer, to help me relax and let the drugs do their job.  On your good days, don't over do it, let your loved one help.  I know it's scarry but you will get through and you will survive!  Always laugh at yourself because some pretty unusual things will happen and the best you can do is just laugh at it.  "Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down"  Best wishes for a successful and uneventful treatment.

I have had two treatments and I'm on Taxotere and Cytoxin.  I am losing my hair, it's thinning out pretty good on top but the bottom isn't.  I have my treatments on Wednesday and that Friday late evening is when I started to feel weak.  Saturday and Sunday was a bear, I could barely get out of bed and had to have my husband help me up.  I felt very weak, wornout, tired and slept alot.  I felt like my body was 100 years old.  It's very hard to explain until you go through it.  I have four more treatments to go and everyone is differerent on how their body reacts to the chemo.  Get informed, ask a lot of questions and what helped me is to expect the worst so if it did happen I wasn't disappointed.  But if it didn't happen I was happy.  You will know what to do and you will get through it.  It's scary and tough but I look at it as if all these other women and men can do it so can I.

 Good luck.

Laurie

I went thru chemo and I was lucky.  I heard so many side effects are possible but luckily nothing happened to me.  I was a bit tired but not very unusual.  And I lost my hair but that's no big deal either.  Swollen ankles but I saw a lot worse,  So you never really know!
