How Good is a Pet Scan

my wife has been diagnost with non small cell squamous cell lung cancer she has had the pet scan and it showed nothing out side the lung.but she has two inlarged limp nodes in the same lung area. our doctor just told me that these pet scans are not always right that cancer can move outside the lung and not show up is this true thanks to all that respond
