My husband if having difficulty breathing and was told by our Oncologist that the cause of death with RCC that has metestasized to lungs is usually pneumonia or respitory failure.   Has anyone experienced this with their loved one?

Have they checked to see if your husband has a plureal effusion? That is fluid around the lungs. If he does they can remove the fluid.and if it comes back there is a procedure called a plureadisis that should stop it from coming back.

Not experienced this with my loved one who thankfully is alive and kicking however I do know of someome who did lose a husband this year who had tumours in the chest area and he did die of respiratory failure.

I also know of someone who lost a husband who had tumours in his lungs but then a tumour appeare din his brain, he did not die of respiratory failure he had a major seizure and did not recover.

My husbands tumours are in his bronchial area - its sucha worry!

Katrina,

My mom is currently in the hospital with pneumonia.  She actually went in for a severe headache (due to already known brain tumors) and they found the pneumonia along with a blood clot in her lung.  She does have a tumor in her lung and had had difficulty breathing deeply over the previous week.  I had not heard about pneumonia or respiratory failure causing death, but it does make sense.  She has been doing respiratory treatments at the hospital and is on an antibiotic for the pneumonia.  I would definitely have your husband checked out, if you haven't already.  I think my mom has been fighting the pneumonia for awhile, but her steroids were masking the symptoms.  Best wishes.
