RE: Has anyone taken carboplatin and gemzar?

Hi,I have had both cisplatin and gemzar for breast cancer. I was diagnosed at stage 3 and after my mastectomy they found more cancer and started me immediately on cisplatin and gemzar. I know everyone reacts differently to chemo, but these two are the only ones where I was able to function. When I had the ACT I could not function. I was unsure how I would react to gemzar and cisplatin because I developed every strange side effect possible with the ACT. With gemzar and cisplatin, I was able to drive myself to my treatments which was a great relief. I understand that men react differently than women do on these two chemo. I am hopful that your daughter will do fine with this protocal and that it will beat her cancer. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your daughter.Take care, Teresa

my Dad is on gemzar and cistaplatin (which is part of the platin family like carbo). My father has the same mets as your daughter. His started in his tonsils on 6/07. He only has side effects at 48 post chemo. Chills numbness and the other normal side effects. He does have tiredness, all the time. He just started the first part of November so he is still waiting to see if it has results. We hope so since the liver is involved. Is your daughter in alot of pain? My Dad is in alot of pain around his chest and thru his back. I wondered if it is because of the cancer in the spine. I wish you guys the best and hope. michele

My daughter is starting another treatment of carbo;latin and gemzar because abraxane did not reduce the tumor in her liver. She is stage IV breast cancer with mets to liver, bones, femer, and spine. All of the cancer is gone except for liver. She has been battle this since 06/06.06 and I was hoping someone had taken this so we might know what to expect. Any info would be useful. Thanks
