Vocal Cords

Hi - I have Thyroid Cancer, but my vocal cords were damaged during the surgery to remove my thyroid and the lymph nodes. It has been about 4 months since my orginal surgery and my radiation treatment. I went back to my ENT this week and the cords on the left side of throat are paralyzed. I am having surgery on the 15th of December. He is going to try to move my cords over so my voice will be stronger. Has anyone had this type of surgery? If so what can I expect? I know that I will be awake with a local (totally thrilled about it) and he does not want me to talk for a week. Which will probably be the hardest thing I have ever done. Any information will be greatly appreciated.Belinda
