I have it too. I am 40 yrs. female I was diagnosed 2 days before Katrina, I was in the hospital recovering from my biopsy in NewOrleans, and left to MD Anderson 2 days after the hurricane hit. I am on my 2nd round of Chemo, Will do another, then get radiation with chemo to shrink stomach so it can be removed. Yes it is a bad cancer but if it is confined to the stomach you chances of survival are good. My entire stomach is a tumor. I do not tolerate sweets well at all. (Gives me gas) I don't do to well the week after chemo, but do well with small meals there after. Keep close communication with your doctor. It's hard, but you have to stay positive to get through it. I don't know mmuch about it but the more I read the more I see people are diagnosed yet we know so little about it. Good luck to your nan and your family, be supportive and loving, God bless. Gloria

I am not sure how to start my question to any of you, but I am desperate. I have pain in my stomach for 18 months had EGD 11 times, shows gastritis. CT- scans, MRI, Upper GI double contrast, Endoscopic Ultrasound, only CT scan showed thikining of the stomach wall. Biopsies all were negative. Had Endoscopic Ultrasound after CT scan and it showed a normal walls, Upper GI normal size. What other tests shoul I do to exclude or to confirm? Thank you for your help. Ed

More biopsies from the stomach wall all over. I had negative at first, but second time after an endoscopic ultrasound test, Dr took nearly 100 samples. And still only 20% showed the cancer on the end. So percervere if you are not happy. Lets hop however all is normal. Good luck to you

I just wanted to give you more information on what is happening to me. I am a male 39 now. January 2005 I felt pinching under and between my ribs. It continued everyday, once or twice a day for about five days. One night I woke up because of pain in my stomach, I drank some water and it went away. I started to have pains everyday, and it became more intense and wider. January 2005, I went to see a doctor, who prescribed Omeprazole for 2 weeks. February 2005,I started to take Omeprazole. It removed pain from spot under ribs, but I started to have a heavy feeling on the lower right of my stomach. I took Omeprazole for 13 days and I started to feel dizzy, so I stopped the course. February 2005 Dr. said if it does not stop to come to him. Dr. sent me to a gastroenterologist and took my blood test (GBC) and H Pylori. February 2005, Tests showed that I am H Pylori positive. February 2005, I have seen gastroenterologist who sent me for endoscopy. February 2005, I had endoscope test, (no biopsy taken), but revealed mild inflammation of my stomach. February 2005, I started Prevpack and went full course without any complication. After I finished a course, I felt burning in my stomach, so I went to see the same gastroenterologist. March 2005, He sent me to some blood work and abdomen ultrasound test, which revealed a cyst in my liver, and kidney. April 2005 I had a CT scan of my abdominal and pelvis. April 2005 Gastroenterologist sent me to take a breath test for H Pylori, which was negative. May 2005, I had upper GI X-rays test – no abnormalities. Since my doctor and gastroenterologist could not find what was wrong, the doctor referred me to Loyola University, Chicago June 2005, I went to see Dr.at Loyola University who sent me for some blood work. June 2005, Dr. performed endoscopy; (biopcies were taken) I was put on Prevacid twice a day 30 mg. June 2003, Since I started to feel nausea, Dr. ordered some blood work and MRI of pancreas. July 2005, I was sent to have HIDA scan, showed gallbladder performance 26% to compare with normal 50% July 2005, I was given Stomach emptying Study, a little bit elevated emptying. July 2005, I had Ultrasound Endoscopies, (pancreas?) It did not reveal anything. August 2005, I started to feel worse, so August 2005, Dr. performed endoscopy, which revealed a heavy gastritis with white exudate, and ulcer in greater curvature; (biopcies were taken) I was put again on Prevacid 30mg twice a day, and was referred to Dr. from Rush University to review my case. September 2005 Rush University Dr. confirmed taking Prevacid 30mg twice a day, and Librax twice a day, and scheduled me on two months follow up endoscopy to assess the healing of ulcers. October 2005, Rush University Dr. performed endoscopy, which did not show any ulcer, but showed some inflammation. (Biopsies were taken as well), I was to continue the same medication for five more weeks. November 2005, Rush University Dr. told me to increase Librax to three a day and to see him in five weeks. I was still experiencing much pain. December 2005,Rush University Dr. cancelled Prevacid and Librax, and put me on Carafate and Bentyl 20mg. December 2005Blood test showed ALT four points higher than reference, Amalise seven points higher. January 2006CT scan – cyst the same size January 2006Endoscopy and colonoscopy, showed inflammation in antral area, biopsy showed gastritis.Started to take Nexium 40 mg per day February 2006Blood test, ALT is normal, in the middle (24), Everything else is normal February 2006Endoscopy – mild inflammation, gastritis I was out of the country, and decided to get another opinion, had endoscopy, sastritis, ultrasound, cyst. Checked some oncomarkers CA-19-9 for pancreas, CA -72-4 stomach cancer, AFP alphafetoprotein liver cancer ? general CEA . All were negative. March 2006Ultrasound, abdomen, cyst the same size. April 2006Endoscopy - showed inflammation in antral area, biopsy showed gastritis May 2006CT scan, cyst is the same, need MRI to characterize. June 2006Endoscopic Ultrasound – normal walls of stomach, 4.1 mm, and antrum 5.1mm normal pancreas, still gastritis, biopsy showed gastritis. June 2006Upper GI X rays with Double contrast. Everything is normal. Stomach normal caliber. June 2006 Liver MRI with contrast. Nothing new. Blood test CBC normal. 24 hour Urine collection – normal. July 3-5, 2006 I decided to go to Mayo Clinic, they took blood, EKG, lungs, blood preassure, and another endoscopy, stomach is normal, gastritis, no results of biopsy yet. I will go back on July 18 to see gastro, to see what my biopsyes are, and to bring them the rest of my disck with CT, MRIs and Upper GIs pictures. I did not loose any weight, even gained around 10 pounds, sometimes have nausea, no vomiting yet. I eat all kind of food, steaks, or fries. I think I eat normal portions, try to compare with before, like McDonalds, or Subway. I have a bulging under my left ribs, and this is what hurts the most. I went to a surgeon at Loyola University, and this is where I first heard about Gastric Linitis Plastica. So he sent me to tests: June 1 , 2006 Endoscopic Ultrasound, see above, and Upper GI X rays with double contrast, see above. After these tests he told me he does not think it is Gastric Linitis Plastica. My blood results are 99% normal. One time is .01 of Calcium, or Cholesterol is high, but all the rest like CBC is good. Hemoglobulin is 17.1. So now I started to have pains on my right side. My stomach hurts with or without food, no difference, and I do not know what to do. Can you tell me if your sympthoms are like mine, what to look for and what to do next. Thank you to all of you, and you are in my prayers.

WOW!!!!!!  Sounds like you went through what my Mom went through before they FINALLY went in and did exploratory surgery and found that she had Linitis Plastica.  She had 34 dr appts in 18 months before they finally said "we need to go in and see what's going on inside her body".  I'm curious as to how you are now!   Hope to hear from you soon.  SLCDSLA

Dear SLCDSLA,

Thank you for letting me know about your mother situation.

Would you be so kind as to tell me her symptoms, and tests. How did it start and what is happening with her now. Did she have endoscopy, CAT scans, Ultrasounds, etc. Where do you live?

Thank you.

Ed
