Ewings Sarcoma in an adult

Hi!  I'm looking for information on adults with Ewings Sarcoma.  My 35 year old son has just been diagnosed with ES of the spine.  He has several tumors up and down his spine.  Thankfully the PET scan did not show anything anywhere else.  They started chemo yesterday and the tumors swelled when the chemo hit.  It caused him to be completely paralyzed from the chest down.  I am so scared.  Today he says he feels some twings here and there and is able to tell his right leg from his left if someone touches them.  I am hoping that this is a good sign.  He is at Sloan-Kettering and I am very impressed with the treatment he is receiving.  It is just happening so fast!  The doctors have told us that this cancer is very rare in adults and is agressive.  If you have any info, please reply.

 Thanks,

Mom Windy

Hi there..

I am very sorry to hear of your sons diagnosis. My daughter is now 21 and she was diagnosed with ES when she was 16. She was treated at Childrens Hospital here in Denver, and had 6 rounds of chemo before they cut 9 inches of bone from her arm and replaced it with cadavor bone. She went on after surgery to do another 8 rounds of chemo and I can say this..She is now in remission for 3.5 years. Her odds are great that she is a cancer survivor. We watched funny movies all the time, prayed ALOT and she just had the most positive thoughts through most of her treatment. There is hope...Its not easy, but you get through it and you both will too. I would highly encourage you to have some input from a childhood oncologist since this is a childhood cancer. If you like, you can always email me and Ill do my best to cheer you all up!!! Stay Strong, its important!

Well, I guess its true, Ewing's at 36 is hard to belive but at the same time i have just completed the treatment in Jan2009 and i was 27 when i was Dx. Don't Worry at all, My oncologist has shown me the excellent past records which were impressive. I have had in the pelvis and they removed with surgery and took total 12 chemo session 5 before surgery and 7 post surgery. Let me know if you have any doubts about protocol,i know a girl's parent who are from my country and took the half treatment in Sloan Katterin. She also took the 12 session of chemos. At Last only thing i can say is : Just Stay positive
