Hi,,

Im new to this board and would really like to hear from other Cervical Cancer Survivors with Recurring Cancer.. I was just told a few weeks ago that mine has come back & my Doctor hasnt even bothered to call me back & let me know what he thinks we can do. I had stage 2b that was to big to do surgery on so I had two Months of Radiation treatment and 6 weeks of cisplatin... SOOOO I cant have radiation again & was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them and what they did to make it..  As of now its confined to my cervix again but I fear without fast treatment I wont have a chance. Ive been reading about the Cyberknife but I cant find anyone close by that does the Cervix..

 Thanks

Hi - I'm so sorry to hear of your recent news about your cc recurring.  I am a 10 year survivor of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix but my stage was 1B so at that time, surgery was the only protocol. I did not have any chemo or radiation so I'm not able to answer your questions first hand.  Because this website is so broad for all cancers, and your questions are very specific to the type of cancer you have, you may want to post your questions on the National Cervical Cancer website at www.nccc-online.org  We have an online community where you can post your specific questions and have a greater chance of meeting other women with your stage and type and you will find a great deal of support there as well.  Please visit us and I'm so glad you are reaching out and trying to gather information and be proactive in your recent health challenge.

Hi Maria,

My mum had stage 2b cervical cancer and was diagnosed in May this year. She also didn't have surgery and had chemo, radiation & bracytherapy.

The doctor told us that this would be a cure and was extremely happy after the treatment had finished.

My mum was bullied by this doctor to have all 3 forms of treatment as she didn't want to have any treatment. She has in the last 2 months developed a temperature and diarrhea and becomes confused. She also has elevated white cells.

She is in hospital undergoing tests to see whether there is an infection or there is a return of the cancer.

What are your symptoms now that the cancer has recurred? Is it the same as it was initially or is it different. Also did you have Bracytherapy and what were the side effects of it?

I wish you all the best and push the doctors to treat you the way you feel is best for you.

Please let me know how you go.

Cheers

R

Hi,

The first thing I noticed was the discharge came back worse then before, I kept asking about it & was told it was normal . Then I started having HORRIBLE stomach pains, Lower Back pain and thigh pains And the discharge turned bright green with a terrible smell. I called my Dr again and again they put it off as being normal & wouldnt get me in there so I had to go to Family Care , They told me there that I had some kind of a Serious infection & to get to the ER. I called my Dr back and told them what was said and again, They said it was probably a fistula but they would call me in some meds. Well,  The meds made me sick so I couldnt take them so I had to call them back and let them know & hope they would get me in there to see me then.. But instead they were very nasty and said that my Dr said that If I didnt feel that I could wait 6 more weeks to see him at my appt then the best thing for me to do was to go to the ER!!

I about fell over, I couldnt believe he said such a thing,  But I did go to the ER , Was checked out by one of my Drs residents who said everything looked GREAT, The Green discharge was from the Radiation, The smell was from the old burt up skin sloathing off the lower back, Pelvis, hip & thigh pain was all due to the radiation I had.. He also said that I had an ulcer through my cervix and it could be the cancer is back but he didnt think so because I had a normal pap smear just a month before that. So he sent me home saying everything was fine.

A few days later I called my Dr office again asking if the test results came back yet, The office nurse said she didnt know if they were back, I said they should have been sent to you all, She said shes sure they were but she hadnt looked at them.. I asked her to but she was busy and wouldnt , And again, Very rude. WELLLLLL A couple of days later that same nurse called me back saying that the Culture from the ER came back as MRSA!! Yes Mrsa, I had layed arond here for months in severe pain calling and asking for help and no one would do anything & now its turned into a horrible case of MRSA and let me tell you, Its the MOST PAINFUL thing I have EVER had to deal with . I also asked her WHY if their was even a change that the cancer could be back did the ER Dr not do a Biopsy right then and there ????? She said I needed to worry about the MRSA right now.

So they put me on a sorry 10 day supply of Bactrim that didnt do crap for it & instead of  My Dr sending me to get an IV drip of a real Antibiotic they said they though the MRSA was taken care of so they would NOT give me more meds. Meanwhile I was in Severe pain again. The Nurse at the Drs office told me that If I was in so much pain that I couldnt take not one more breath then go to the ER .. So I layed here again for over a week crying and screaming in pain from the MRSA and no Antibiotics until I couldnt take it anymore so off to the ER again. This time one of the Residents did a biopsy on my cervix , Gave me a shot for the Pain, Put me back on the Bactrim and sent me home.

A few days later I called about the results but they wouldnt give them to me & said I had to wait for my appt with my Dr at the end of the week to get them.. So I waited and went it , He said the Cancer was back he was sorry and their wasnt anything he could do other then chemo.. I broke down in his office that day but now wished I could have told him what I thought about him  & His office staff on top of having a break down. That was the 11th of Dec, I still have not heard anything back from him.. So I cant really say that I had any pain just from the tumor being back or if it was all the MRSA.. I dont know but its been a Horrible ordeal and Im stuck here not knowing if something can be done or not.. I would hope so since its as of now still on my cervix. My Doctor is the ONLY one in the area within a hour away but he is SO FIRED! Ive got a appointment with a good Doctor next month but its still a month away & I fear the tumor will spread by then but Ive done everything I know to do to try and get in sooner .

I hope your Mom gets better, You may want to ask about staph infection if they havent already done it..
