My 8 year old Sheltie has been diagonased with TCC in her urethra and given 2-6 months. She has had a cystotomy but still tries to urinate after her bladder has been emptied. Each time we go out she strains and struggles to go and nothing comes out. I have to drag her back in the house then she looks at the door. I hate to see her in such pain. Her meds are deramaxx 1/2 25mg/day, & Prazosin 1mg/2x/day. Right now her life sucks cause all she does is sleep and ask to go out to strain.  I am not sure what to do right now but I do know if it was me I would want to go to Rainbow Bridge.

If complete blockage is the problem, this won't help, but we have had great success with a product called Bladder Strength that you can get from a holistic vet. My dog is a one year bladder cancer survivor and still had the straining, etc symptoms even after her tumors were surgically removed. A couple of weeks on BS at twice the dosage amt called for and she's been asymptomatic.
