Need Help Classifying Myself

Hi, I have been diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma in situ in the cervix, and had a LEEP procedure done to remove the cancerous cells. I go for bi-annual biopsies as a follow up and will have to have a hysterectomy in a few years (only 27, no kids yet). When I was diagnosed, the doctor kept saying "you dont' have cancer" however when I asked for the medical term of what I have, she gave me this term: Adenocarcinoma in situ and described it as 'severe'. After doing my research online I understand that this is non invasive cervical cancer, or stage 0. Is this correct? Would I say I have or had cancer? What has me confused is what the doctor said but maybe her motivation was to not panic me by placing that label. But I would feel better knowing exactly what I have/had so that I can explain to others or just know myself. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Alli: I am so glad that your diagnosis came at a time that you could be treated in a fertility saving manner. I was not so lucky; I had a different form of a gynocological cancer. I have researched many different gyno. cancers and I would say that you had cancer and was successfully treated surgically and you have no evidence of disease. Whether you in the future redevelop the disease is not a certainty, so please get several opinions before having a hysterectomy. Reasons you might want to down play your diagnosis would be for life insurance and if you ever seek disability insurance. It is strange saying that if you were to get cancer cervical is the best, with the very high CURE rate and a potentially new vaccine to eliminate the disease. Good Luck. L.

Thank You
