Still having issues with breast after chemo...

With my third round of chemo I came home from the clinic and that night my breast was engorged with fluid.  The following week I had shooting pains and then finally saw the onc.  He said they couldn't tell me if the needle came out of the port or not and gave me 2000 mg of antibiotics.
The pain did subside but now my breast is numb.  On Christmas Eve Day I had my fourth round of chemo and now I have a little redness and just a smidge of pain.  I felt like when I went to the onc that he couldn't do anything for me.  I'm debating on whether or not to call the doc again.  What will they do this time?  How long will this numbing sensation last?  They tell me I won't have any tissue damange with the chemo I'm taking which is Taxotere and Cytoxin.  I don't want anything to happen but feel like my onc didn't know what to do.  Any suggestions out there?  I'm just hoping that my breast returns to normal...at this point I dont feel confident in the doc.  =(

If whoever was giving you a treatment of some kind did NOT see the entire needle come back out of your port, then they should be assuming that the needle IS there, and that the integrity of your port has been compromised, and that you might be at risk for entry of a foreign object into your blood stream or surrounding tissues.  I would demand that they do whatever they have to do to verify that your port either is or is not safe.  If it's not safe, they need to replace the port, at no charge to you.

Not necessarily what you want to hear, but were it me, I would not be messing around with the possibility of having any part of a needle lodged in and then breaking free.

If they say there is nothing they can do, seek a second opinion, and consider talking to a lawyer.

Sincerely,

Tre
