Subject: my Sons Fight
Date: 10/15/2005
My son has malignant melonoma and was diagnosed and had surgery in August 2002. I beleive he was already a stage 4.He ahd surgery on his left thigh to remove a mole and since then he has had 6 surgeries and 2 skin grafts. He is considering treatment with the breast cancer drug combined with another drug and I can not think of the name. he will be treated at UCSD now and will start treatment soon. My advice to anyone is to do whatever you can to fight this horrible disease, becasue it will take your life and your emotions. As his mother i feel so much anxiety and hurt because I cannot make things work better for my son and most of all i do not know how long he will be with us. I love him with all my heart and I beleive he ahs been msiguided a lot with this cancer . any input or timeline for his survival?

Good Evening,

I am not sure what state you are located, but I have found a wonderful treatment center. It is The Moffitt Cancer & Research Center, located in Tampa, Florida. They have a Melanoma Specialty Unit, you may want to check them out. My husband has Melanoma and trust me, it is very deadly and aggressive.

Dr. Adil Daud & Dr. Sophie Dessureault, M.D., Ph.D.
(they are my husband's physicians, and we love them)

H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Inst. Tampa, FL

They brought hope that had been taken away. Don't give up.

May God bless and hold you all in his care.

as you know, malignant melanoma is not a cureable disease. 5 year survival rates are in the 5% range. If he doesnt have brain mets then he could get chemo like IL-2 or DTIC and the drug temozolomide has has also been used. Regretably you are just trying to buy some time. Pray for your son and with him. You may be surprised the impact prayer can have.
God bless you and your son.
