I had seeds and radiation in 2001 (Psa 7, Gleason 7) and stayed under 0.10 until a year and a half ago. Psa went up  0.11,0.16 and 0.23 every 6 months. I just had a biopsy and was told there was no cancer in my prostate.( 12 cores.). Any suggestions as what my next step should be. Thank you in advance, Ron

Ron,

The cancer could be in the surrounding tissue or else where. Unless there is a mass a MRI would not be helpful. Are you seeing a oncolongist or are you seeing an uroligist. If you are seeeing an uroligist he can no longer help you. Possibly radiation salvage therapy might be an option. You should continue to monitor your psa and if it continue to rise some treatment should be considered. I have advanced prostate cancer , which there is no cure. Today I treat it with alernative treatment. It has been successful, it lowered my PSA from 2.39 to 0.45 over a 2 and a half years. my web site is www.alternativeprostatecancer.com I hope this helps.

My 74 yo dad also had the seed implants back in 2001 and everything was fine until his PSA suddenly began to rise,, 95 then 250 last spring. His prostate biopsied negative, however now he has bone met's throughout his skeletal. I'm sorry I don't mean to frighten you, every case is differnet of course and a persons age and general health is important. My dad would not give up smoking which depresses your immune system which you need to fight disease or keep it at bay. Be very proactive in your care.We are currently looking at clinical trials. Again, your immune system is a vital component. Check out  drday.com .

Best, cjs

Suggest you find a Radiation oncologist that is an expert treating prostate cancer.

Likely you have PCa in the prostate bed which is curable with a combination or ADT followed with IMRT.  There are published papers supporting this plan and my RO would use this treatment plan.

Remember to drink and drink to keep your body flushed of all the medication and other chemicals you are taking.  Water, pepsi or anything.  It is always better to pee and pee than to be sick and poisoned.  Take care. Roger.

Update. My Cryosurgeon wants me to come in friday and discuss a date for this procedure. I have a call in for him, maybe he is thinking the cancer could be on the edge of the prostate bed and freezing that area may get it? Last week he recommended watchful waiting for three months. Getting a little confused here. Any thoughts? Thank You.

Ron,

A couple of suggestions: Get an opinion from a prostate oncologist; they have much more experience with reoccurrances than urologists or radiologists. They can suggest tests such as MRIS, or Color Doppler ultrasound or lymph node imaging to find the source of the reoccurance. You have to find the source before you can recommend a treatment option so be careful of any doctor that recommends a treatment before he knows exactly what is making your PSA rise.

A list of oncologists can be found on the Prostate Cancer Reasearch Institute's web site.
