Questions about lung mets..

Just to start off, I'll give you all some background info. My dad was diagnosed with stage III sarcoma to the thigh last May. After a successful surgery in June, he finished up radiation and life was back to normal.

Recently, he had a seasonal CT scan of the chest to make sure everything was ok. It turned out that there was something that "concerned" the doctor. He didn't tell us what or where, except that it was on the lungs. My dad has been complaining about a chest cold recently, so we're hoping that's all it is. His other CT scans, two if which to be exact, have come back clean for mets in the lungs.

He has yet to go to see the hematologist for this, but it's pretty much been concluded that its either spread and will need another CT scan to make sure its still there or if it was just something temporary like a cold or whatever.

So, assuming the worst, what is the best treatment for this? Has anyone had any success with any specific chemo medications or diets? What about laproscopic surgeries? What's the life expectancy? My dad is only 52 years old and it pains me to see him have to go through this.

 Thanks to anyone who responds.

Hi   What kind of sarcoma did your dad have removed from his leg. There are several kinds and different degrees of grades.

I happened to have had a sarcoma removed from my thigh back in 2001.

Also stage three.

An was diganosed with lung mets in 2007. I have a dermofibrosarcoma (DFSP). I was told that this can be life threating, but couldnt tell me if it was termanol. Due to the fact that there isnt much information on this type of cancer.  Its usually a low grade and slow to grow from what i was told.

I go to Sloan in new york for treatment.

I have been on gleevec its taken orally, all though have had problems with the meds.

The gleevec is shrinking my tumors but i have to go off of it for several weeks and then back on. Due to the other complications it causes me.

Its good that he is being scaned.  My DRs dont know how long mine have been in my right lung.  I wasnt sent to the right drs when i first found out about what i had in my thigh.  I was originally told that this type of cancer dosent spread through the body.  Well guess what it did.

Just make sure you dad continues on getting scans.

hi my mum has gone through the same

recent post

Hi, my mum was diagnosed and had a rare in adults childhood soft
tissue rhabdomysarcoma nearly 3 years ago in her thigh, it was removed, just recently
they found a small sarcoma in the lung which is due to be removed.

can
anyone without knowing the specifics give me a prognosis as im lost in
all the internet research. does the secondary sarcoma develop at the
same rate what can i do to help? i guess i need to know all i can in an
admission i realize i cant do anything other than support which i
realise shouldnt be disregarded. I want to know what to suggest to do
based on recent similar cases.

I think the prognosis is good if they take sufficient margin arround the it. but it seems scans need to be regular. I dont know what to do other than encouage her diet to change.

i wish you the best of luck
