Absolutely, we have had the same issues with flourouracil 5FU in particular. The drug Baclofen (pill form) has almost totally eliminated the hiccups. Give this one a try. We can usually take it for just a week after treatment and then stop until the next one.

Best of Luck Corman and keep reading this section. There is a lot of great information here that you will need as you and your Dad continue through this process.

Thorazine and paregoric in very small amounts are good remedies for hiccups. You need a dr's prescription and supervision for both.  Paregoric is a very old medicine - very seldom used anymore, so many medical people aren't real familiar with it.  Very important that it be kept in a glass or metal container, and measured/dispensed with something glass or metal,  as it will melt plastic.

I'm sorry - chlorpromazine is thorazine - I should have looked it us before posting.

I know there was a message thread posted about severe hiccups several months ago.  I believe there were some remedies mentioned in that thread that have not yet been mentioned here.  You might do an internal search on CC for hiccups, see if you can find that message thread.

Sincerely, Tre

hi thanks my dad tried the medicines they gave him they just didnt work,we asked the nurses what else we could try, they told him he might just have to live with it,having hiccups for 9 days nonstop is not easy, would you believe my 9 year old niece went on the internet and found some home remidies, the second one we tried it worked and he hasnt had the hiccups for 6 days.all he had to do is hold his nose shut and take 15 little sips of water and presto there gone it has something to do with training the diaphram,i hope this will help other people.oh yeah i forgot my 6 year old niece prayed for her pop-pops hiccups to go away  who knows what made them dissapear god does his miracles god bless to every body and good luck on the battle.corman

Here is a group of discussions on hiccups. You might want to Google Phrenic nerve damage. Unfortuantely this is usually what causes the constant hiccups. It becomes irritated and hence it is hard to control. All the best MMS
