After 5 days of 5FU my husband develped a severe case of thrush.

Nystatin swish and swallow, then magic swish and swallow were prescribed.  Do they work and how long until it resolves?

Thank you,

Sandy

Nystatin will work for thrush in a few days.  My husband has experienced this twice after his 5 days of 5 FU as well, in addition to mouth ulcers. An unfortunate side effect of chemo. Not sure what "Magic" mouthwash is however, perhaps a lidocaine/benadryl preparation?

Good luck

While I was on Xeloda I was prescribed a mouthwash with Lidocaine, Nystatin and an anti-acid.  It worked after a few days.  The Lidocaine numbs the mouth and throat so it had a negative effect eating.
