Went to a cancer specialist in the San Jose, Caliornia area today. Received the worst possible news. Our beloved girl dog Inca has two types of cancer.
One is in her breast...which is sadly not the big trouble. The big trouble is in her urethra.
Options did not sound good.
Surgery on the urethra was not really an option. Too many complications. Best chance was for a chemical cocktail to keep the urethra open longer to allow her to continue to urinate.
Vet says without any treatment it's day to day that her urethra blocks up and her kidneys fail...and that it might not happen for six months.
With the proper chemical it might give her another year.
To say that we are crushed fails to adequately describe our broken hearts. She has been with us since birth. She seems so healthy and normal.
She has a bit of trouble going pee...which is how we knew to take her to the vets. Appetite is normal..she still plays like a puppy most of the time.
We are having a tough time coping with this news and have spent the last few hours scouring the web to learn more about this.
I must admit what we have found does not give us much hope. It seems a death sentence to be sure.
Can anyone offer us any hope? Has anyone had this issue and had a positive outcome?
Thanks,
Broken hearted in Aptos
