radiation has begun for a spinal tumor in and near the spine. I want to know the prognosis. Radiation is being given to relieve pain and to shrink the tumor.

My husband has an identical diagnosis.  He has been treated with chemo Gemzar/Taxol for over a year. He controls his pain with Vicodin. He is not in much pain.  They considered radiation also, but decided the tumers were not large enough.

Did the doctors call the treatment palliative or curative?  That is probably the biggest clue to prognosis.

Thank you for responding.  He had 10 doses of radiation and the onc doc said that he should now be with hospice, which he is... at home.    They are wonderful. They give him roxanol for pain and he now  has none...with the fentynol patch as well.  He is doing so well that the doc thinks he can go back on chemo   Perhaps sutent. The hospice nurse said this was a period we should enjoy...whatever that means. What do you think?
