HPV and suppressed immune system

I was diagnosed with a strain of HPV (I cannot remember the exact strain) this last May.  I see a high risk O.B./GYN because I had a transplant and take immunosuppressants to protect my kidney.  My transplant was in June 2004.

Anyway,  I had the LEEP procedure performed this last August and the results came back stating that all margins were clean of the virus.  I went for my followup in December. My doctor called me to inform me that the HPV cells were back and show to be more aggressive than previously.  I am close to my monthly cycle starting so he has asked to see me the first opportunity after my cycle.  He wants to look at my cervix with a microscope to see if he can determine anything.  He stated he was bothered by the 'quickness' of the return.  He was certain that all was gotten previously with the LEEP and even had the biopsy tissues re-examined and confirmed that all margins were clear.   He also stated that he wanted to get a second opinion from one of his colleagues that deal with this all the time.  So, a week after he examines me with the 'microscope' he wants the 2nd opinion physician to take a look and the 3 of us to get together for a plan of action.

He suspects that because my immune system is suppressed I just cannot fight it off.  I did ask him if the results of the return of the virus are confirmed what the next steps were.  He talked in great detail about the cone biopsy and even stated that worse case would involve the removal of the cervix and uterus.  He stated that the cells only show to be on the external surface of the cervix and not in the canal which he stated was good.

I feel as if I am just rambling at this point.  I have fought so hard to live a more normal life post transplant and now this.  Does anyone out there have any knowledge of this virus with a suppressed immune system?

Out of curiosity, did you have a three-month follow-up PAP smear, after the LEEP? Sometimes the specimen can give a false negative because the hot wire leaves burn marks around the margins. So, it may be the LEEP didn't get everything. If your doctor did not see you for the follow-up PAP smear until now, please get a different doctor, immediately. With your health history, he should have.

If this is the second follow-up appointment after the LEEP, and the dysplasia returned, please insist on getting HPV DNA tested. That way, you will know which strain you are addressing. Roche has one called AMPLICOR, and I swear by it. Since insurance companies don't like to pay for anything new, your doctor may not have it, or you may have to ask about it before he can offer it to you, or you may have to go to a teaching hospital. You can also contact one of the nationally known labs and find out which tests they offer. But finding out will help you set up a strategy for protecting your health.

A compromised immune system does make you more vulnerable in that it's difficult to throw off infections. So, let me give you some links that will help you boost your immune system to keep your body healthy. Since you have had a kidney transplant, are you working with a professional who could tailor diet and supplments that would keep you healthy?

Tany01 and Chemiszt24 used alternative medicine to clear up dysplasia.

It disturbs me the doctor is talking about a hysterectomy, at this stage. If you do require and choose additional surgery, the doctor needs to discuss all of your options, as well as their risks and benefits, with you.

My apologies, but I posted before I reread when you had the LEEP and when you had the follow up. Please consider the possibility the LEEP didn't get everything.
