Hi, I've had surgery and had 8 treatments of carbo/taxol and now onto my 5th treatment of Doxil with no break in between. My CA-125 levels came back 40,34,35 and(after my last chemo treatment) at 34, which I understood to be acceptable, but after reading a lot of the messages on this board showing women with lower levels, I wonder if I should be concerned. The Johns Hopkins site has info indicating that 35 or lower would be desireable. Before surgery my Ca-125 was 13,000. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Hi Terry! Wow! If you started with 13000, then 34 sounds good to me. I'm in Canada and my cancer clinic says 21 is the magic number altho the many sites say 35 is acceptable as you indicated. If you're concerned, then talk to your oncologists - what do they say??

Good Luck with your treatment!

Hello LIndaMae....I have been to two different gyn/onc and they both like the numbers to be in the single digit altho 35 is in the remission state....I have been as low as 15 and it has come back after a one month break....it's the microscopic cells that dont show up on pet scans as far I know of...you could be different and do better, we are all individuals and our bodies react differently to drugs...I am in my 7th round of Doxil and 3wks ago my CA125 was 16...I go to the Dr.s again Tues so will see where I am with that.....your body needs a break from all this and I think I am ready for that...my immune system seems to be down.

Hi again Terry! My CA125 started at 1051 in May '08 with last done in Oct. '08 at which time is was 14.7. Docs were happy & so was I.

I started with 3 bouts of chemo, then surgery (hysterectomy & removal of omentum), then 3 more bouts of chemo. Also had IP chemo a day after my 4th & 5th chemo. Two IP's were enough for 'me', so they didn't continue!!  I don't see my docs again til March. They explained what to watch for and what to expect for treatment if/when it comes again.

My hair is now like a little cap - I finally have a 'hair line' again! Now it just has to fill in. And I actually shaved a few hairs off my legs this week. Oh, the things we get excited about, eh!

I'm still recuping (sp) - find that I think I have all this energy and start big plans, but that all peters out within a couple of hours. Oh well, it gets better each week so I'll just keep truckin'!

Lots of blessings to you!

Hi, LindaMae, I just came back from my visit with my onco.He seemed happy that my numbers are in the normal range, but would like to see them get into single digits. I have 2 more treatments of Doxil left to go. He said that 34 could be my number. My hair is about 21/2 inches long. It took for ever. I was dx in Feb.08.What signs did they tell you to look for if there was a sign of a recurrance.

Thanks and Hugs and Prayers,

Terry

Hi terry, my name is glo,(short) this is new for me talking about the cancer, wow you must have us all beat on your ca-125. mine was 500 at the time of surgery in 2006, since then i had 3 bouts of chemo carbo/docataxel.now my count is 26, went up over the holiday. the dr. said this is usual, more or less one becomes resistant to the platinum drugs.what i want to say there is a new drug out. i went on internet to read on trials.for ovarian. i e-mail a patti pharm. vice president, clinical operations last yr. because there was no trial for this drug in seattle. and ask if it would be possible for a trial in this area. it is called Phenoxodiol, australia, london and new canaan,ct.has had trials and certain parts of u.s. well yesterday, when i visit the dr. yesterday, and he did not like it going back up to 26, i said isn't 30 normal, he said 25 is normal for ca-125. so that is when i ask, instead of chemo again.is there anything else. he told me of the drug phenoxodial for phaselll. so i am going to tried the trial. if u are interested or any one else, go to Ovature trial. there is inclusion criteria for the study.women who had undergone 2 courses of therapy with platium drugs such as carbolatin and tumor has responded. then shown disease relapse  with in 6 months of completing a treatment. sorry i did not mean to go on, u take care. prayers and huhs   glo

Hi,

I don't know what kind of cancer you had but I'm interested in what your doctor told you to look for. I just finnished chemo after radiation and surgery and my ca125 is 12 but the doc never took a reading before surgery and he thinks that I have a non secreting tumor. He says he will watch for symptoms but I'm not sure what

Hi,

My Ca125 was 1800 when I had surgery 2 1/2 years ago.  After 8 rounds of Cisplatin/Taxol my CA125 was 6.  We stopped all chemo, but within 1 1/2 years it was up to 50 again.  After a PET the Dr. put me on Carbo/Gemzar.  Now I'm again at 7.  I had hopped that I would have some quality free time, but the Dr. has informed me that I will be on this chemo until it stops working then she will find something else.  She is determine to keep the cancer from spreading to major organs.  What is Doxil?  How does it affect you?  Is it harder than Gemzar which is really rough on the blood counts.  I do know that the CA125 works differently on different women probably because the cancers are all different.  I need to do some research on this.  Good luck to all.

DG
