C125 Test

My niece, age 35 just had a routine gyn exam. Through an ultra sound they found a solid mass on her ovary about half the size of the ovary. They did a C125 test on her and the result is 17. Should we be overly concerned that she has ovarian cancer? Her mother died at age 33 from Llymphoma. The cancer was first detected on her ovary. Could we be going throught the same thing again?

The ca125 is only 97% accurate. I am one of those that is not a good marker for. My last reoccurance I had a visible tumor when my ca125 was 26. Normal is 35. On my second reoccurance my ca125 was 43 and I had a tumor the size of my fist. I would have the tumor bioposed asap- My first oncologist was being conservative and had me wait for a second ultra sound. The weekend before my scheduled surgery, I had some unusual spotting, the oncologist said that it had recently spread to my uterus. I feel if we had not waited 4 more weeks, my outcome would have been much better. Don't let any talk her into waiting.

Also, my oncologist said to wait because I was to young at 40. I had stage 3B. Do not let talk you out of having a bioposy.
