Hi everybody, I have been reading the board for a while. I am scared.... I have had a lesion on my cervix (on the 'lip' sort of near the edge) for a while. It has been grwoing bigger the last year and is as big as a bake bean now. I had a papsmear 3 years ago and it came back as normal. I am scared they missed the cells from thie lesion because it is near the edge and not in the 'tunnel' if you know what I mean. It is bigger now, and I have asked for a smear now, but they want me to wait until after 3 years. Also seen a dr today and she said she will find out if I am 'eligible' for further testing on the NHS (state medical service in the UK). They usually only test if my mom or direct relative had cancer. On my moms side my grandpa had cancer (young age), my aunt, and on my dads side, 2 of my uncles died of cancer and one had cancer. These are not direct relatives. Please let me know if I should be worried about a lesion of this size....and if I need to go for a biopsy on private Medical costs (money is an issue, but what is money worth if this is cancer???) I have 3 kiddies, 9 months, 2 yrs and 7 yrs old and I am almost 31. Please let me know. I am very scared, but need to know what this lesion is. How did you know you had cancer, did you have lesions? Thanks for reading. Please let me know. Frances

Frances, It is worth it for peace of mind to find yourself a new gyn. and find someone who will biopsy and take out the nodules you have. The life you save may be your own. I know that most oncologists would say: When in doubt, take it out. Never be afraid of changing doctors. The next one may be better than the one you have now. I found that to be true. Good luck.

As another has stated, my oncologist also states if in doubt take it out. Lesisions are known to develop into cancer regardless of where they are found in the body. I had a renal cell carcinoma, clear cell, which developed from a .2cm cyst and 1.0 cm leision in the kidneys. 3 months later full blown cancer. My oncologist now states I am cancer free but this determination can only be rendered five years post surgery. I have a full body CT scan done every six months. Also have had a recent bone scan to insure that the cancer is gone. Please Francis, save your life and seek other medical care, especially an oncologist who is a cancer specialist. Life is for living, not in pain and anguish but in enjoyment. I have two sons and seven grandchildren and find that I live for my family vs. what material things I may and may not have. Grandpa Bear

Dear Scared, Never, ever, be afraid to go get a "lump" that is not suppose to be there removed!!! The dr. should remove it and do so without taking a chance of it either way!!! You have 3 young children to think of regardless of if it is caner at this time or not. It could be too late in a year or 2. My husband has be told he has multiple myeloma and has had it for over a year now and he has maybe a year to live!!! So please do not hesitate! Please. God be with you. Pat W.
