rcc any ideas on no appitite

I've been on 50mg of Sutent for just over a year and the lost of appitite and the change in taste are the worst. I've visited buffet's and that works but I've found that every session on the sutent changes almost everytime. Sometimes I can eat a little through the last two weeks and sometimes I can't eat at all. Not eating brings on the weakness and fatigue. I'm a level IV and had a kidney removed Dec. 07 and have been on sutent since Jan. 08. I lose weight the last two weeks of the med. cycle and the two weeks I'm off I eat as much as possible to put the weight back on. My weight has been dropping over the year and I'm now down 45 to 50 pounds. You just have to force things down in small portions and try to eat all day long even if its only a few bites. I can always eat ice cream and just recently I've had luck with applesauce and canned fruit, only in small portions.

You just need to keep trying different things and force a little down at a time.

Have you asked the doctor about megace.(I think I spelled that right). It might help boost your app. Also how about just drinking boost that was the only thing my Dad could get down. You can buy that at any store.

I've been on MegAce for the last 11 months and drink a Boost or Ensure every morning, I just finished the Sutent yesterday and will be off for 14 days now. I did something a little different this time and it seemed to help a lot. Last Monday I was feeling really weak and hadn't eaten much of anything for 4 days so I called the Dr. and went in for some additional fluids. They put me on an IV with fluids for almost 2 hours and it made a big difference these last few days. I was able to eat more and wasn't as tired as usual, especially at the end of the Sutent cycle which is always the hardest.

My husband, Big John, has been on Sutent for almost two years now.  He was having considerable difficulty with side effects until his oncologist changed his regime to two days on/one day off instead of the previous 4 week/2 week cycle.  This made all the difference in the world to him.

BTW, the change in the Sutent cycle did not change his CT results--his 7 tumors in his lungs dried up and disappeared within the first 6 rounds of treatment and none have returned.  We are off to the oncologist today with another great CT report.
