My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer last summer and had surgery to have it removed.  The surgery took nearly 10 hours because they couldn't get his urethra reattached to his bladder with the robot and had to open him up by hand. We were hoping that he wouldn't have anymore problems, but now they are telling us that the cancer has moved to his bladder.  He had testicular cancer about 30 years ago and had radiation.  He was told that he couldn't have radiation in the same area twice so they would have to dig up his old records.  Turns out...they can't find his old records.  They are suggesting that he take hormone shots.  Can anyone give me information on this?  Are the shots successful with bladder cancer?  What are the side effects? Should surgery be an option for him?  Please help me with all the information that you have. It's killing me to see the strongest man in the world have so many struggles.

I’m sad for what you’re dad gone through and is now going though.  I was told I might have bladder cancer my doctor at the time said patients with the size of my prostrate and the way it was pushing up into my bladder they usually have bladder cancer I was told if it were so when they did the RP Id be on a urinary drainage Bag. they would have to cut out a peace of my bowl to make a tube to the out side of my body. Its just in God Grace  I met Debby my naturopath All the research I did worked finely With bladder cancer what I read is  he should  be OK with a cause of Cellular Zeolite it help me  with my bladder cancer I think  because prostrate cancer is hormone dependent the hormones will knock it out fast. but I read long term use of hormone treatment can cause diabetes and heart problems. My doctor told me there a products used for woman going through menopause the active ingredients are natural plant extracts from red clover with a standardized ratio of four isoflavones, but  they can also help  with prostrate cancer the chemical element called isoflavones  found in most plants but more in red clover and soy beans it not a sex hormone but mimics sex hormones, like testosterone, and estrogen, it blocks the receptor on the prostrate cancer cell so when testosterone, or  estrogen pass by they cant get to the blocked  receptor you only need 40 mg of isoflavones a day a 100mil (8oz) glass of soy milk has 9mg of isoflavones so a bit more then 4 glasses a day soy flour has 10 times the isoflavones that soy milk has well take care Ray    

Hormone shots?  Never heard of it.  If is non-invasive bladder cancer, then there is BCG treatment or Mitomycin-C directly instilled into the bladder.  If the cancer has invaded the muscle of the bladder, then it is typically removed. 

If it cancer that has spread to his bladder, then that's a different thing altogether.  That would most likely require chemotherapy. 

I think before picking a treatment option, he should get a second opinion at a major cancer center.  If it's bladder cancer, then go to one that specializes in that.  If it's prostate cancer or testicular cancer that spread, the go to one that specializes in the particular type of cancer.  Cancers are different and different treatment protocols are called for depending on all of the circumstances.
