Subject: Metastasis Only Detected to Resected Adrenal Gland
Date: 10/28/2005
My father had his primary tumour removed from his ascending colon in April 05. CT post op staged as 3 however CT picked up 4 cm tumuor on right adrenal gland. Were told by onco that more likely to be benign. My father then had 6 cycles of Folox ( Oxaliplatin ) followed by a CT and CEA. The CT showed nothing new, and the tumour on his gland had remained the same size however his CEA had risen from 30 in June to 74 in August. A PET scan and blood test followed which showed that the tumour was non functional and malignant. It has now been 4 weeks since his op to remove the gland and tumuor. He is still recovering from the op and we are concerned his wound is still healing. The onco has advised to discontinue with the Folox and do a CT/CEA early December. We are concerned about stopping treatment and would like to hear from people with a simliar experience. Continue to live hope and pray.

6 cycles of post op chemo is probably enough. There is some concern about a rising CEA which could mean another tumor somewhere that hasnt shown up, however waiting to do another CEA in Dec seems appropriate. No need to do anymore chemo than you have to and nothing is showing up right now.
God bless.

Thankyou OncRX for your time to respond to my message. It was reassuring to hear that the sit and wait approach is probabaly the most appropriate thing to do. During our post op appointment with the surgeon who removed the metastasis to my father's adrenal gland he said that what he could see of the liver, it looked OK. We are concerned about the effectiveness of Folox if after 6 cycles the tumor had remained the same size, you would hope that the tumor would decrease in size ? The onco also mentioned that if new tumor(s) appear in future that he would put my father onto Irinotecan. I am concerned about the effectiveness of this on reducing progression if the Folox which is reported to have significantly better results only seemed to stop the progression to the tumor whilst his CEA went to 74. Since the cancer has spread from the right colon to the right adrenal gland would local radiotherapy be of any benefit? Would be great to hear back from you or anyone else with a similiar experience to share. Thanks again.
