Hi Guys, I am not sure reallyif I am in the right section, because my post refers to the side effects of Sutent, but its not for Renal cell cancer, my wife has a very rare condition of clear cell adenocarcinoma of the bladder, unfortunately there is no rearch for this condition because theres no money in it, but our onc feels that Sutent may well work because under the microscope it is identical to clear cell of the kidney, hence is reasoning, unfortunately my wife is one of those people that if it can happen it will, she started the Sutent 10 days ago and already she is having horrendous problems with sickness, she takes Domperidone in liquid form and nosinan through injection, but it dosent seem to hit the spot, the best one she has tried is Ondansatron, but it gives her terrible constapation so she has had to stop it, My wife Sharon has always had sickness problems with all of her treatments, so if anyone can give us some advise and tips about Sutent and sickness it would be very appreciated, also we were under the impression that she would be on Sutent permanantley, I didnt realise it was in cycles can anyone elaborate on this, I thank you all in advance

My husband was on sutent for a couple of months and it really beat him up. Very nauseous and constipated. He took 2 colace and 2 senna-s tabs in the morning and at night. Maybe she should try a suppository. My husband was on sutent for 4 weeks then 2 weeks off. He now has a lot of gray hair. Hes only 25 so its kinda funny. His two weeks off were very much needed and we looked forward to them. Try to treat the symptoms as best as yall can. I hope she is staying strong. Mentally and physically. Best of wishes. Jennifer

Hi.. I am on dose 15, round one of Sutent for RCC.  First five days I was euphoric and had the "munchies".. next five days I was vomiting and had diarrhea. Nothing much helped except ice cubes and gingerale.  Onc gave me Phenergan but that gave me leg cramps.  Took three tablets of Immodium and stopped the diarrhea.  The vomiting eased after three days, but there is a lingering nausea (similar to morning sickness in pregnancy).  I found that old-fashioned oatmeal helped ..  warm with a little milk.  Also found that if I eat small meals and very often it keeps the nausea in check.  Keep saltines (the ones with less salt) on my bedstand and chew them several times during the day and night.

Nothing "cures" the symptoms, but I keep going on the Sutent because I see so many people keeping their cancer in check with it.

PS... the "rounds" referred to means a cycle of 28 days, 14 off.

I am on my 2nd cycle of Sutent towards the end of my 3rd week in the cycle.

I have quite a few of the common side effects, several of the uncommon side effects and my thyroid levels (TSH) are high (hypothryoid).  I should be getting my thryoid meds tomorrow to start treating that.

Today I have now started getting either a breakout or rash and am not sure if this is a side effect or not.  It's on my face, neck and chest.  Not bad like hives, but I have sores that appeared and the skin is very sensitive and kind of sore where the breakouts have occured.  I am just wanting to know if this is one of the uncommon side effects they don't publish (like the thyroid issues).  I feel like a hypochondriac calling my Doc everytime something occurs, so thought I'd feel better if I at least knew if this is possibly caused by sutent or maybe it's just not related at all.

Have you considered shingles (herpes zoster).  Maybe not a Sutent side-effect, but often stress related.

Guess we just have to call the doctor all the time... if you have a concerned onc, he/she will not lose patience with you.

Hi. My mom is taking sutent for anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC). She starts Round 2 next week and she just went through a severe bout with a "rash". It broke out on her feet, legs, arms, etc. At first her doctors (Mass General, Boston) weren't sure of the cause, but now they're sure it was a side-effect of the Sutent. They gave her a steroid creme for it and it is helping. Larry

Just an update, Onc sent me to derm consult and the derm doc thought it was from the Sutent.  The rash is now healed, fortunately only kept breaking out for a few days.  Derm offered to proscribe a cream for the outbreak but I declined since it was healing up and I feel I'm on enough drugs already for side effect.

Now getting towards the end of my third round and fortunately seem to have no rash this time.  I did talk to another patient who was on Sutent who said that it seemed like each cycle was slightly different, I am believing that now.
