ct scan with iv injection

Hello,

My mother (stage iv nsclc lung cancer) had her first follow up ct scan today since starting Tarceva a month ago.  They usually give her contrast to drink but today they gave it via IV.  She hadn't eaten since the night before  and was delayed getting the scan for a few hours. During the test she said she "felt" the dye in her throat and heavy feeling in her chest.

She got home after the test and started coughing like crazy, her heart was racing and she shook all over.  She didn't tell me this until tonight.  She took a decadron and it helped calm the cough but she just felt lousy all day.

Has anyone had a reaction like this to IV?  What I read about this says hives or flush.  But nothing like she described.  She is calling the doctor tomorrow.  Does this mean she is allergic to the dye?
