Hi Guys, I dont want to sound negative but my wife has been on Sutent now for 2 weeks, and her side effects have been terrible nausea and a sore mouth, but reading numerous other reports about side effects, i would like to ask is this it, is this all we can look forward to for the rest of her days, nothing but horrendous side effects, I thought this miracle drus would change our lives, but i thought for the better, I know i sound negative, but do things get better or is this it, i am pretty sure my wife would prefer a shorter time with good quality rather than face this constant battering, will this stop.

Peter,

I know where you are coming from. My husband is in round 2 of sutent and it seems our life is at a stand still. He gets up, goes to work, comes home at 6 and is in bed before 7. I was hoping that the body would get used to the drug and his energy would come back but not yet. He has the diareah, nausea and mouth sores also and no appitite . His Dr. has put him on nausea meds and also megas for aptite. This has helped some.call and ask your doc for help dont wait till your next apt. and have her suffer side affects that meds could help with. also ask for magic mouthwash some people say it helps.

I understand exactly how you feel. My husband was on Sutent and it was awful and it did not work for him. He is now on Torisel and the side affects are mild compared to those of Sutent. Sure he has to receive Torisel IV once a week but it is far better on him than the Sutent. He could not have survived much longer on Sutent.

I'm sorry not to offer anything positive about Sutent. However, we have had success with Torisel.

I know how you feel.  Sutent made my life unbearable. The mouth sores were unbearable, I nearly died from a blood clot and could hardly get to the bathroom on my own ,Sutent is a great breakthrough in the fight against RCC, but it gave me no quality of life. Although Torisel is a once a week chemo for me it allowed me to live a nearly normal life and has shrunk the tumor in my back by 50% , the ones in my lungs have nearly disappeared, and the kidney tumor is also smaller. Many people have had success and have tolerated Sutent well. I am 71 and have been fighting RCC since Aug 2007 . Only your family and Dr. can make the decision if the side effects of Sutent are so bad that you have to find another chemo before you know if the Sutent is having results.

All I can tell you is that you receive it through an IV once a week. So far the only symtoms my husband has had is fatigue, finger nail and skin issues. It also made his chol. jump up and he is on medicine for high blood sugars. He is having some swelling in his feet but I think that might be something other than the Torisel. I know this sounds like a lot of stuff but trust me it is soooooo much better than the Sutent. The quality of life is way better.

I hope this helps you.

Hi Peter.

Side effects of Sutent are highly dependent on the dosis. The protocol is to start with the maximum of 50 mg. I had similar side effects with two Sutent-therapy periods on this dosis.

After that, I've had no less than 10 Sutent-therapies (since august 2007) on 37.5 mg dosis and the side effects of toxicity are controlable. Some nausea, a little diarrea and going on in the therapy-weeks some fatigue. I am 42 and my general fysique is okay.

Tell your wife to have a sensable diet, to drink as much as possible and to use a stomache medicine like Nexium to decrease the effect of Sutent on the stomache. Tell her fysician to check her thyroid gland function. This is highly of effect on general well being and fatigue.

If Sutent does its work, the medicine is great. My cancer has come to a halt and with RCC that is progress.

Take care and all the best.

Hey dear, don't lose hopes. Believe in Him who created every thing. I have completed 8 cycles of sutent. In the begining side effects were horrible, but now they seem to diminish over a period of time and the nodes have also deminished.

wish ur wife a good long life

Regards

saju
