I am new to the wonders of the internet+was so grateful when I found this website. Thankyou. I was dx in 2001 with this rare form of ov ca. I had a total hysterectomy+was monitored 3monthly with blood tests CA125 and InhibinA+B and CTscans. The CA125 has not been a reliable indicator for me, but InhibinA+B are good indicators. The cancer came back in 2005+I had another operation to remove the tumours on the lining of the pelvis. Again I was closely monitored. The cancer came back in 2006 in the pelvic area, but a para-aortic mass was also found. 3 tumours in the pelvic region could not be removed. Blood tests+CTscans were done 3monthly+I was prescribed Femara (Letrozole) in Oct 2007. The drug is working because the 3 tumours have shrunk in the last year. I hope this is helpful to anyone reading this+I would be very happy to give more detailed information.

Love hugs and hope   madi8

Hi Maddie!

Could I ask you what size your tumor was at diagnosis and what stage your cancer was? Did your tumor rupture during removal?

I was diagnosed with GCT in December of 2006.  My tumor was small and it was stage 1 - confined to my ovary.  I can't get it out of the back of my mind that I could recurr later down the road.

Anyway, I would love to talk to you more, please reply.

Thank you,

Angie

Hi i am a 42 year old female who had GCT. i have had 2 major surgerys in the last 2 years. i chose not to do chemo as a precaution because after all i have read it does not work against this type of cancer. My last surgery was june 4 2008 and now it is feb.2009 and my GCT is in remision. I know what it's like to worry about if and when it will come back, but i just have to trust in God that it will not. My was stage 4 GCT and it metastisize to my liver. But they think they got it all.I can only pray.

I am 38 years old and I was diagnosed last week.

I went to the doctor complaining of pain in my right pelvic area.  She sent me for an ultrasound which found a 12 cm cyst on my LEFT ovary.  They could not tell as much from the US so they sent me to have a CT Scan also.  Two weeks after that, I had surgery to remove the cyst. Let me also say, that they found 2 - 2cm nodules in my left lung on the CT scan.

At first, the diagnosis was benign, and the doctor cut open the cyst to remove it via lap so i could go home the same day.  He also removed the left ovary because it was damaged and no longer working.  There was some spillage during the surgery.  Three days later, the doctor called me to report that the cyst was indeed cancer, granulosa.  This was last week.  Now, I am waiting to see an oncologist and see what my next step will be.

I am a nervous wreck, even though I'm trying to be as positive as I can be.  I still see so many things that contradict themselves when it comes to GCT.  My fear so far is that there was spillage from the cyst during the surgery... my cyst was not enclosed in the ovary, it was growing outside the ovary and it was huge.

I know that I will have to wait to talk to an oncologist, hopefully this week, but it's nice to see that i'm not the only person who is going through this.  I just thought I'd post my history on here and see if it rings a bell with anyone elses experience with GCT.

Thanks for 'listening".

Hello Jaibe,
I also had an ovarian cyst that was removed by lap surg.
the trouble my oncologist seems to have is trying to determine the stage. Since the pathologist only had fragments to examine, shes not been able to determine if it was on the inside or outside of the ovary. I too, as you are, am worried about the posibility of the spillage having cells spread throughout.
Just was wondering what your oncologyst advised you? I am considering changing to an gynecologic oncologist since my oncologist advised that i should have pelvic exams every 6 mo. and CT and inhibin levels every 3 mo. I would only have to see one Dr. instead of two.
Please reply.   Thank you.
