here for my mom

This is my first post...I'm on here because of my mom. She has dial-up so she isn't really into the internet, but I know how much support is out here.

My mom had a 10 hr. surgery the day after Christmas 2008 at Johns Hopkins which revealed Stage 3c ovarian cancer. She has had 1.5 treatments and has begun to feel the extreme fatigue and some nausea. I visit her every weekend (I live 2 hrs. away), and this past weekend her spirits were quite low. My dad hadn't told me this before, but Mom was hesitant before signing the forms saying she agreed to receive treatment knowing it would be so hard on her body.

I plan to share some of your posts with my mom b/c I think it means so much more coming from someone who has been in her shoes or is in her shoes.

My sister has 2 children, but my husband and I do not. I want so badly for my mom to have the will to live so she can live many more years and so my children will know this sweet woman as their grandmother.

There is hope. My grandchildren are what keep me going. Do what you can to keep her positive yet be there to talk if she wants to express her fears. I recently found I was more afraid of not being prepared to die than dying. So..I started writing down my wishes and asking relatives what possessions they would like. I warned them I don't plan to let go of them for at least another 40 years! I do feel much better and know I will be here a long long time.

Read the Ovarian posts under 'Chemotheraphy'. There's a bunch of us gals going thru this and it will give you an idea of what to expect and how we're handling it. It may give you more insight of what your Mom's going thru!

Blessings to you and your Mom, LindaMae

Hi, Surgery can take alot out of your mom. Ask your gyn/onc for nausea pills. Keep sending her positive thoughts.Your mom will get thru this . I'm 58 and have stage 3c OVCA. I thought it was a death sentence for me but its not. It's treatable.I also have 2 daughters, they keep me busy and that's a good thing. I also changed my diet and eat alot more vegtables, like broccoli. Very little red meat.Drink plenty of fluids especially during and after chemo. She can have a very good quality of life , just tell her to stay positive. Sending you and your mom Hugs and Prayers.

Terry
