Hi everyone;

Can anyone help with further insight to post op pain?  Had open partial nephrectomy 3 months ago.  Ups and downs with healing.  Back to work 2 1/2 months later;  pain sitting in my chair at work was worse than surgery pain.  Legs numb/tingly/weak.  Never happened prior to this.  Emergency did CT of spine;  everyone okay; gave me pain meds, which did not even take away the pain.  My GP put me on muscle relaxants and anti inflammatory drugs.  Pain is still there;  I just can't tolerate it.  I am at a total loss as to what the heck is going on?  Has anyone else had this or can someone offer any thoughts?

Thanks so much.  God Bless!

I read your message ...and it can mean a number of things.....I was diagnosed with stage 3 b  renal cancer........as I am just about a vegetarian.....I was having numbness,muscle spasms, etc...and   the Dr. said I was anemic....so had to take iron pills....then  found out later that my vitamin B12 was low......and they put me on B12  pills....now I have to go back to get blood tests to find out if I am absorbing the 12 pills ....ourwise ....I might end up getting B12 shots...also I would like to say .....is that...i had so much fatigue with the cancer.....that I would eat  what would take the least amount of cooking....so that is part of the reason I ended up this way.... cause it was easier eating  fresh fruits  and veggies ...cause all you had to do was wash them ....then eat them raw....

another thing you could try ...is elevate your legs/feet on top a stool,etc....when you are sitting or lying down.....I sleep/rest....with a pillow underneath my knees and that seems to take a bit of the pressure off of the lower back...another thing....if you lay on your side....try putting a pillow between the legs or knees....that helps too.

There can be so many reasons for back pain...like a kidney infection,sciatica,muscle spasms,arthritis.or your might have more problems from the cancer,etc....just to name a few ....but then i also suffer from chronic pain....and they put me on  morphine cause all the other pain meds....had  more toxic side effects when you have been on them for long term....morphine has been around for  a very long time....anti-inflammatories ...have bad stomach,liver,kidney side effects....asprin....causes stomach  bleeding,ulcers,etc...and tylenol  is toxic to the liver.....so in the long run ...the morphine....gave me better pain control and I was to reduce  some of my meds....one good thing about morphine is that it does not have the toxic effects on the organs like those other meds do....but you have to use morphine the way it has to be used for pain therapy....because it gets a really bad rap because it is addictive.....but if you use it properly .....you do not get addicted to it at all...it gives me a better quality of life....after all what good am I to my family if I am curled up in ball in intense pain....and cant do anything....is it fair  and good if my family sees me like that all the time....no.....it was a tough decision at the time to go on the morphine.....and I realize now that in hindsight that I put my body through a lot of suffering....  all because i did not want to go on it ....one thing you have to remember...when you do not get good pain therapy...and .if you get  an  added injury/illness on top of it ....its take your body longer to recover with that extra added stress put upon it.....so that is  another issue to think about....do not know if this helps you or not....but I wish you the best and hope that you find out what is causing this and get the proper treatment for it.
