I was diagnosed with Stage 0 vaginal cancer, which is also called VAIN (vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia) in November 2008. It was discovered that I have multiple areas, so laser surgery was unfortunately not an option. This is a farely uncomplicated surgery with very little disturbance to everyday life and farely quick healing time. Because I was not a candidate for this, short of doing a vaginectomy, yep just as it sounds, not a good experience for an "active" individual, I was told by my oncologist that I would be doing a course of chemotherapy cream. It is a cream that is applied using a tampon, and over time should destroy the bad cells, which the body then sheds. This can take anywhere from 6 months to a year and a half. It is not the most comfortable thing. I have gotten burns and blisters from the cream as it is very caustic, HOWEVER when you consider the other possibilities I can handle it. It is scary I know, but just ask lots of questions, sign on with a great gynecologic oncologist and most of all be hopeful. I have not yet gotten a pap with "normal limits" so I do not know how long mine will be but, the important thing is that I am here for my husband and kids, and plan on driving them crazy for many more years! Hang in there, if I can do it, so can you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -cupfull of hope
