Hi Everybody!

All of you are such an inspiration!  My mom (Marge) has recently been diagnosed with stage 3 PPC.  I have been doing a lot of research (as best and I can...there's hardly anything!) about PPC and have found this message board.  I am really looking for support for my mom.  I think she has amazing chances of going into long term remission.  She's young (53) an an otherwise healthy woman.  She hasn't started chemo, yet, but will in a little over a week.  She just got her wig today and I feel like her mood is shifting...losing her hair will be difficult.  If any of you are interested, then please check out this blog I have started for her & leave a comment.

I know the comrodery and support of others going through the same thing will give her inspiration.  God Bless all of you...I am praying SO hard for anyone affected by this terrible disease!

 Thank You!

My mom was diagnosed with Peritoneal Cancer 3C in Janurary 2008.  Her doctor took out a full plate full of those rice like little tumors.  He showed it to us kids and said he took as much as he could when he came out of the surgery.  This happened in Taiwan.  Seeing that was quite a shock.  Then she went though a 6 month period of chemo.  Lost all her hair!  But nothing a good wig couldn't help!  She dyes her wig every once in a while.  She'd doing fine considering.  She's been in remission for almost 1 year.  The monthly CA-125 blood test helps her to stay calm.  Her numbers is still within the normal range.  I think getting cancer is a wait up call for her.  She's taking better care of herself now including eating well and keeping a normal daily schedule.  I was panic when she got sick.  Now knowing she's accepted her illness and dealt with it makes me feel better.  The most important thing is to stay calm and work with her doctors.  I am sure your mother will get though this horrible time.  By the way, mom was 59 when she was diagnosed.

Hi

My mom was diagnosed stage 3 in June of 2006.  She had the belly port chemo for 6 months and was in remission for almost a year.  She started  a different chemo last summer when it her number began to go up.  She has chemo about every other week at this point...nothing like the inital chemo.  She just had a pet scan and bloodwork check etc....her PPC cancer number is 8....it's amazing.  Keep a positive outloook and be so thankful for the stage 3 diagnosis..My mom is 71 and not even thinking about leaving this world.

Sincerely,

 Michelle K. ( really)

My mother is having Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy tomorrow I wanted to know what to expect. Ive read several articles where it says it is more toxic than regular IV Chemo and there are no prove that it prolongs life. Thanks for any info. Mira

Hi

My mother had this chemo and I do know that it is harder on your body than the regular chemo...but the drugs are getting directly into the cancer. I don't think you can even qualify for this chemo if the cancer left from surgery is over a certain size..so the fact that your mom qualifies is good.  I can't say that it's better or worse  but my mother had a pretty long remission after that initial belly chemo.  Now she is back on chemo but that is life with this cancer.  Her recent pet scan showed the cancer in the belly to be almost gone..although we know that it will continue to grow back.  Her cancer CA 125 marker number is 8( was up to 1800 at time of surgery)..technically she could be in remission but her doctor wants to keep this cancer under control so that she can continue to live and do things she enjoys..so she will keep up with chemo every other week...but this isn't nearly as toxic as the initial rounds in the belly.  I guess by now your mother has had her first treatment...I hope that went well. Hang in there...oh my mom is going on her 3rd year with PPC and we don't see her end coming anytime soon

Hello,

Thank you for replying... My mom had Periton Chemo Taxol IV on day 1, Cisplastin Intraper day 2 and tomorrow (day 8th) Taxol Intrap. She feels very tired right now and she complains that she has pain in belly button area. Did you mom have that kind of pain after Intrap Chemo? Did your mom had neuropathy side effects?

Our oncologist told us that she will have one more Intraperit. Chemo and that is it. She will have 8 chemos all together (6 IV she already had and 2 Intraperet) and after that no more chemos. Did you mom get chemo during remission too?  It sounds strange that he did not say anything about changing chemo if/when the cnacer comes back. What chemo drug your mom is on right now?

Thank you...
