Stomach Cancer Diet

I'm sorry this is so long but I'm new to all this.  : )

I'm hoping someone can help me.  My father (67) was diagnosed with stomach cancer (lymphoma), ulcers, and h pylori at Christmas.  His oncologist started him on an antibiotic treatment for several weeks.  Last week, my father's endoscopy showed the h pylori infection was gone but everything else was the same.  He goes to the oncologist tomorrow to discuss the next treatment.  During this time, the doctor hasn't offered any type of information regarding diet, recipes to try, supplements, etc.  My father is now at the point that anything he eats makes his stomach hurt and bloated.  A few weeks ago he was at least able to eat soup, mashed potatoes, etc., without pain but now anything bothers him.  HE IS SO HUNGRY.   I can hardly bring myself to eat when I am around because I don't want to tempt him.  He is losing weight and I'm sure he is not getting the proper vitamins.  Can anyone offer any suggestions so I can help him?  Also, his oncologist mentioned doing another round of antibiotic treatment.  I do not understand why you would take that route if the infection is gone.  Wouldn't it be better to start chemo or some other treatment to take care of the lymphoma that is already there?  I'm concerned that it will spread if it isn't addressed soon.  Thank you for any help and diet info you have to share!

Have you tried any aloe vera juice? 2-4 oz a day good for digestion. Also may want to try papaya. It is a real challenge.  My husband had good luck with Unjury a protein supplement available on line.

Good Luck

I understand the frustration, I'm a 46 year old male on the backside of chemo and surgury for stomach cancer.  I remember last summer when it was painful to eat and I was losing energy and weight.

Some things that worked for me then and now:

1. Ensure (I only liked the chocolate ones)

2. V8 juice

3. Orange Juice / Banana / Ice / Dietary supplement powder (Vanilla): makes a kind of Orange Julius shake - took me a while to get down the first few times, but makes a huge difference in Energy level

4. Soups - I lived on these

5. Baked Potatoes - don't understand why this worked for me, but for a time I lived on BPs with butter and pepper on them

Finding foods that worked became a full time event for a while.  And I had the same thing, where Dr. and such were of little help.

Chemo was hard for me, like having the flu for 5 days.  But it was very effective, and after the first round it made eating possible, which made all the difference in the world.  My tumor was partially blocking my esophogus, so its shrinking helped a ton.

Let me know if you want any other information.  Every cnacer is different, every patient is different and every experience is personal and different from the next.  We can just learn from each other and try to find a formula that works.

There is HOPE.  I am now cancer free and on my way to full recovery.

Did you have any suspicious "spots" anywhere else?  Did they remove the tumor with surgery or shrink it with chemo?

My Dad has stomach cancer and feels full after eating very little. He also feels like his pills don't go down all the way, so they are thinking his may also be near the esophagus. Unfortunately, a CT scan showed some spots outside the stomach which they need to investigate. He is having a liver biopsy next Friday. :-(  scary!
