TCC in bladder

Hi

I am new to this site and have been reading a lot of messages regarding TCC in bladders of canines.  My 12 year old beagle, BB, was just diagnosed with TCC in the neck of her bladder last Friday.  She's been put on Peroxicam - 1ml liquid per day and seems to handle it well.  In fact, her appetite is amazing!

She became incontinent around Christmas time and we went through the tests and meds for a UTI, hormones, etc.  Finally, a contrast x-ray was done and a mass was found.  The vet says he can't give me any idea of how long she will live, but that no vet would even try to remove the tumor.  He hasn't recommended any special diet or antiobiotics.  Does that sound strange?

She is acting like her old self, except straining when urinating and constantly dripping urine, so she must wear a diaper at all times when in the house - a reall challenge in itself.

I need to travel with my job occasionally and have no idea if there are kennels that will board an incontinent dog.  Does anyone have any info on this?

Yes I have a Sheltie just diagnosed with TCC today. Had xrays done with dye She started to leak & try urinating for long Periods of time now for about a month or so.They are treating Her with meds have to pick up tomorrow. She is 11 1/2 years old,  so surgery also is not an option the vet said. I would never have known anything was wrong because she is so active till i seen her trying to go potty.I am reading everything to find out all I can.

Hi

Nice to hear from you, but I am so sorry about your Sheltie.  BeeBee is still hanging in there.  The Peroxicam hasn't shrunk the tumor as we had hoped, but it seems to keep her free of pain.  She has to wear a diaper all of the time while in the house as my place is fully carpeted and she leaks constantly.

I have switched her to a homemade diet of rice, chicken and carrots-which she loves and have been trying to add some extra nutrients by giving her high-quality kibble as a treat.  She won't eat regular dog food as a meal anymore.  I guess I've really spoiled her - but she deserves it!

It's been a long, hard road so far, but as long as she is active and not in pain, wwe'll keep going.  She does have a hard time when taking a walk - starts out fine, but after about 200 feet, she stops every step or two and strains to urinate.  So, we don't get to go for our long walks anymore.

Please keep in touch regading your Sheltie.  My email is

Hi,

Very new to this forum and not sure, but reading about TCC, my yellow lab (Kelsey) was diagnosed in January with TCC, she has been on Previcox 1/2 tablet a day, she is still acting like the crazed dog she's always been and we walk at least 3 miles a day - her loose so she must run 5 miles a day.  So with all that said I did a bunch of research and have been giving herTeavigo 2 in morning and 2 at night - I can't tell what is going on but she doesn't bleed anymore - still going or trying frequently but we live with that. The Vet was at the house last week and couldn't believe her and actually recommended that I check with a surgeon to see if they might do something, she couldn't believe she was still alive and said - "no one's told the blonde that she is sick".  So there is hope at least in my mind. Anyone found anything else that seems to have been working.

 Thanks,

Becky
