stomach cancer mets to the esophageus

Would appreciate if anybody has anybody feedback on this.

My Dad diagnosed with stomach cancer Nov 07 complete gastermony March 89 after a tough couple of months was doing good. Clean scans etc

PET scan etc cancer has mets to esophageus. Is this common. They are going to try and do a stent on Tues he is not able to eat solids at this point.

I was told 1 week ago that he had weeks to live and was just devasted. Suffice it to say that the doctor who told me forgot the word compassion and was talking about my father and gave me a graphic description of what would happen etc.

I then went to our Oncologist (thank god) who gave us hope and told me that my father is a complete fighter and very determined and alot of the time they judge a person not by their cancer but their state of mind and they generally stay with us for longer.

I suppose  I am just putting this down to see if anybody has had similar experiences.

To everybody who is going through this all I can say is there is always hope. And we all have to hold onto this and treasure each moment. There is never a time or date and they decide not the doctors.

 Thanks for reading.:)

It seems there should be a way to get information which is sensitive and accurate. I like my information raw but that is because I am a health care provider. My husband who is the survivor prefers his information 'Lite'. Stamach Cancer is  such a difficult road to travel. I just hope suvivors and family members can be treated with genuine care and compassion.

Hi, I had a total gastrectomy last Feb 28th. Then my esophagus was removed on Sept.11th all in 08 within 6 months of each other.  You are right in how long one has left on this earth.  Only GOD has the answer to when your last day is.  I can tell you from experience, my doctors were always suprised at my progress.  I was a fighter and had a great attitiude going into all of this, therefore I have done better than they expected me to be doing.  It does have alot to do with the sick one's attitude and the fight they have left in them.

Your in my prayers,

Belinda
