I feel so bad for my husband he is on his 3rd consecutive round of sutent 37.5 with no breaks inbetween.( he had 14 days between the 50mg 1st and 2nd but none 2&3rd.) He is getting very tired and has lost ambition. He goes to work and comes home and goes to bed. He is 50 and his beard and hair is turning white! I feel like he is just coasting!!! I don't know what to do to make things better. I am in the health field and want to help him get better but am getting discouraged!! Any hints?

Thanks!

Hi Princess,

It sounds like things are a bit difficult right now.  Take this one day at a time.  I would suggest talking to your husband's oncologist.  My husband was on 50mgs his first round, but the side effects were too severe.  He is now on 37.5mgs and still has his 14 days off.  It makes him feel so much better just to have some time to taste food!!!  He is 61 and retired, but his fatigue is only near the end of the cycle.  It does help that he is in a cardiac wellness program.  The execise and the heart friendly diet seem to work wonders.  He also eats small, frequent meals.  This journey is about fighting the cancer, but as our oncologists (we have one local and one at a major center) agree, it is also about quaility of life.  I, myself, am afirm beliver in mind over matter.  Depending on where you live there are support group centers that he could attend.

I forgot!  We use Just for Men and tanning products.  I had him start the tanning product before surgery reminding him of how pale I had looked after a previous surgery and suggesting it would help to make our daughter feel better.  He enjoyed the benefit and has been using it daily through the winter.  These are ego boosters.

Princess 1, looks like we are in the same boat.  My 55 year old husband has been on sutent since November, non-stop.  His only relief is that he decreases the dosage when the side effects become severe.  He comes home each day has has one of Dr. Sear's immunity boosting shakes (try his website) then dinner, 1 hour of relaxing then in bed before 9:30.  The extra sleep seems to be helping.  I try and stay busy and socialize throughout the week so that I am fine with being home with him on the weekends.  Our relief has been humor.  We tend to joke about the future, etc.  Hang in there, take care of yourself an PRAY!
