When Sutant does not work

I'm writing for my beloved aunt who has been fighting liver cancer now 1 yr.  It does not seem long, but it feels like 20yrs as she is one of the very few that the two top treatments for Liver Cancer does not work for her.  First she was on Gleevec, with great hope this would work.  NOPE, so she moved on to another drug Sutant.  She unfort. is one of very few that have the side effects of Heart Conditions. She was then placed back on Gleevec with hope that her tolerance of Sutant would now help her with Gleevec, NOPE her Liver Cancer tumors tripled.

Now they say Cancer Trial, WHAT AND WHERE can I research for these options, until she has an appt. with her Onoc. to which he was then going to give her more information.  Yeah, his comment was "Oh the trials are but a phone call away".  We all know that is not as easy as he makes it out to be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Bugnana,

Your question is a bit confusing.  Neither of the drugs you mention are normally prescribed for primary liver cancer according to the various medical websites I checked.  The are both used for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) however, and perhaps some other forms of cancer.  Perhaps your aunt has one of these which has metastasized to the liver?

In any case, the website for finding clinical trials is ClinicalTrials.gov, which is run by the National Institutes of Health.  It is really not particularly difficult to use.  You would need to know exactly what sort of cancer she has in order to search for an applicable trial however.  Your oncologist should be able to help with this.

Andy
