I need to talk with someone who has chosen tomotherapy as their therapy for prostate cancer.  My husband has just been diagnosed and we are looking at prostatectomy, robotic and we've just read about tomotherapy.

Your help is appreciated.

My husband choose CYBERKNIFE radiation over tomotherapy because it is less damaging to surrounding tissue for a tumor on his adrenal gland. Also please check this book out before you decide. Cancer Free by Bill Henderson http://WWW.Beating-Cancer-Gently.Com

Hi,

I was treated with Tomotherapy for prostate cancer three years ago.  My PSA was 48 (should be under 4) and my biopsy was positive 12 of 12 samples with a Geason score of 9.  The surgeon said that he could not help me.  I started with hormone deprivation therapy then 8 weeks 5 days a week of Tomotherapy.  Very few side effects, fatigue mostly.  The hormone therapy gave me many more side effects, extreme hot flashes and sexual disfunction.

Now my PSA is 0.4 and my urologist, once very sceptical, is now a believer in Tomotherapy.

I don't know how advanced your husbands prostate cancer is. Also don't know much about tomotherapy. If his cancer is confined in the early stages you may want to check into to HIFU.

Hi Jan:  All of us who have been diagnosed with PC need to do 3 things:  !. Determine the exact status of your own situation; 2. Select the best treatment that will best take care of your situation; and 3. firnd the best doctor who does the treatment you selected.  PC is one of few illnesses where the patient should decide which treatment is best for him.

You have more research to do.  The website that helped me understand the entire process and select the treatment that was best for me is: www.yananow.net. From there I went to www.protonbob.com and finally selected proton beam therapy at Loma Linda as my treatment.  After asking my wife to marry me 42 years ago, it was the best decision I ever made for myself;  painless, non-invasive and PC cured with no lasting side effects. Things couldn't have turned out any better.  Best of luck, Oceanman

I would like to recommend that you look at a web site regarding Dr. Johanna Budwig. http://cancertutor.com/Cancer/Budwig.html. She was a German scientist that spent 65 years studying cancer and chronic illnesses. She discovered why we are getting cancer and what to do about it. I am a survivor of pancreatic cancer and have been doing her protocol for a year. I know it has helped me.

Jan,  ACAM (American College for Advance in Medicine), a progressive Medical Association has several base line cancer therapies that are not as invasive. I suggest checking their website to find  a physician who's completed their training and talk to them first.   Infosponge

I do not have any useful information on Tomo but if time permits you may want to check into seldom heard of proton therapy. Its another form of radiation.

I have had tomotherapy but not as the first line of defense.  I opted for surgery 10 years ago with a PSA of 6.4 and Gleason 7 (3+4).  After surgery my PSA stayed below .1 for 4 years.  Thereafter it began to rise and after 8 years from surgery had risen to 0.7.  I then opted for tomotherapy at City of Hope.  I made 36 visits no more than 40 minutes in length for any one visit.  The side effects were very very mild.  Two years later my PSA is now less than .1 again.  I highly recommend Tomotherapy.  I realize my situation is different from yours but hope this may help you in making a decision.
