hi from palo alto,ca. my dr. at stanford cancer center had considered nexavar  to treat my tumors. i must have received three different packages fom the drug co. covering all aspects of the drug .i would call your drs. nurse and ask to have these information packegs sent to you. the drug can have serious side effects, only extended ones life by 4 months at best. if you father is a canidate for a treatment they performed on me on march 5-09 it is threaspears infusion. today marks two weeks since the infusion and i have no side effects at all. in 6 weeks i will have another mri to see how the tumor has been wiped out. which by the it will be gone, medicare covers the cost of the entire procedure. there are many centers around the country that does this treatment .google threaspears cancer treatment ,and you can read more on this incredible treatment.millions of micrisopic glass beads embeded with y-90 radiation ,which was infused in my femoral arterie where the beads go and lodge only in the tumors and kills the cancer in that area only.no hair loss and so far at two weeks not one side effect. i hope i have assisted you in some way. you have good day, camus.

Hi,

In my dad's case the doctor says radioactive isotopes and tace cannot be given. We will surely take another opinion on this but as for now he is on Nexavar and having severe side effects.I think the threaspears is the radioactive isotopes u r reffering to.

Thanks for the info.

Hi,

My husband is 56 and was diagnosed with Hep C and HCC last August, (3 months after we were married and he was able to get on my medical insurance).  We are going through City of Hope.  He started on a Clinical Trial with Dasatanib Phase III, had very bad side effects and they took him off of it after about 1-1/2 weeks.  He then went on Nexavar and the side effects were fatigue, he lost about 12-15 pounds, and was just starting with the hands/feet thing.  After 7-1/2 weeks they did a CT Scan and found the Nexavar had not stopped the tumor(s) from growing.  We are now on another Clinical Trial with Phase I Pazopanib - no side effects and we're in starting Week 4 today.  The protein levels in his "pee" showed very high this week, so they may have to decrease the dosage.

My husband feels just fine - is working and gained most of his weight back.  We won't know if the drug is working until May 13 when he has a CT Scan.  It's been quite a journey so far, but we will keep fighting and are looking at all options.  I'm just so happy he feels OK.  His Oncologist says he is very healthy otherwise, which is a good thing.

Please let me know if I can help with more information.

My dad is 83 and was diagnosed in January with Liver Cancer.  He started nexavar about 6 weeks ago, 800 mg daily I believe.  He has been feeling very tired and has a loss of appetite.  He says after the first bite of food, everything tastes the same (bad).  He has been losing a lot of weight (mostly mustle and fat), but his stomach has been increasing with fluid.  He has had the ulstrasound guilded parencentisis 4 times in the last 8 weeks, each time draining from 3-6 liters of fluid.

He is getting weaker and weaker and has a hard time moving his shoulders.  Luckily he has no pain in his stomach, but does have pain in his shoulders.  We are not sure if this pain is a result of the cancer, nexavar, or just bursitis.  He also is has a subued speech/voice problem and his skin is chaffed especially on his feet.  His legs and feet are swollen which I think is a result of the liver cancer fluid buildup.  The diarea associated with the nexavar can be extreme at times,

His other problem is congestion in his ears and head.  He went to a specialist, but all they wanted to do was a hearing test.  They said he didn't have fluid in his ears.  Could this fluid be related to the liver cancer fluid, or the nexavar?

We would love to find out if this nexavar is working but we are told they won't do a cat-scan until about 3 months.
