Subject: Stop Smoking?????????
Date: 11/05/2005
This message goes out to Chary & Hearty.....I quit smoking 11 years ago...quit smoking with all 4 pregnancies....and still I got lung cancer. I know many people who have never touched a cigarette in their lives are now suffering from the same disease. I know someone who has smoked for 60 years...and she's fine!!! I'm not condoning smoking...I rather despise the habit...but I think its time that people like you guys stop assuming that just because someone was afflicted with lung cancer that they must be a smoker. What about all those cleaning chemicles on the market that are jam packed with toxins and what about the huge manufacturing companys that put their employees at risk on a daily basis by exposing them to toxic chemicles...its time that we looked at the big picture don't you think? And I'm pretty sure that while smoking is a hard habit to kick, once you are told you have lung cancer quitting comes pretty easy...so stop trying to sell your product here. Everytime I mention that I have lung cancer everyone askes how long have you smoked? People have got to stop blaming the lung cancer patients...people seem to think that because (some of us who smoked) deserve our disease...what about those who didn't?

Second hand smoke also causes lung cancer.

My friend quit 30 yrs ago and has lung cancer now. If you think direct and second hand smoke doesn't cause lung cancer, you are fooling yourself.

People need to quit while they can. You might be lucky and it won't spread. My husband now has 3 brain cancers too. He didn't quit until now, a year after his lung cancer showed up.

Smoking is the #1 cause of lung cancer and yes the smoker is to blame for his own choices. Make bad choices and get bad things. I smoked too and stopped when my heart did.

I hope those people keep plugging away.

Second hand smoke was mostly to blame for my tonsillar cancer as well. I worked in smokey environments (nightclubs, bars, etc...) for many years as a musician and could not get away from it. I always thought the only bad effect was the nauseating smell that the smoke would leave on my clothes, hair, and equipment. I know better now. I've had to endure the hardships of chemo (cisplatin and 5FU), high dose radiation (35, 1/2 hour sessions aimed at my neck), and the recovery from such treatment. I can no longer work in any area that doesn't have a ban on smoking. Cancer survivors, please send a letter to your state and local representatives to institute a workplace smoking ban in your area. People shouldn't have to risk their lives because a smoker doesn't want to walk outside to light up.

Yes the medical society does saying quitting smoking does benefit your chances of survival. How ever there are many people that have never smoked a day in there lives that have lung cancer. My Aunt for one of them. Genetics has alot to do with it im sorry to say. My Dad had 12 siblings in the family. Ten of them died of Cancer. It has now gone into cousins. And my dear sweet sister who also died of Esphogeal Cancer in Sept. I wished they could find the reason why any one gets Cancer. I did see only tonight(on Nightline) that red meat is linked with Breast Cancer. Imagine eating red meat and getting cancer from that?? Its not just smoking that causes Cancer. They need to find the cure for Cancer as they say like ever 20 minutes some one is diagnoised with some type of Cancer in th US. Enviroment has alot to do with Cancer as well. NIH say its a lack of anti-oxidants in our diet. We have forgotten about fruits and vegetables. America has become obessed. That to has alot to do with Cancer as well as exercise. What made Lance Armstrong get Cancer or any one for that matter???????

You make it sound as though you think that certain people deserve to get cancer. Shame on you. All people have bad habits, and NO ONE deserves or should blame themselves for getting cancer.

I would love to know why so many people are coming down with cancer. Kids for one, years ago you did not hear of some many children becoming affected with this dreaded disease.  I just lost my husband to Renal Cell on the 4th of August. He did not smoke or drink, was full of life. It spread to his lungs, all over his body.  The oncologist said it came from the work he did. He worked in the flooring industry, a carpet mechanic, so the work he did killed him.  The chemicals did it.  Years ago they did not wear mask and gloves and still to this day mechanics don't. So who is to blame? The companies that don't notify their workers?

Smoking is a bad habit and does cause cancer and does hurt the body but what about the foods, vegetables and fruits we eat. What about enviormental issues people sometimes have to be around?
