helping bile flow

My husband was diagnosed last Sept with Bile duct cancer.

Every time i ask doctors about the hard time he has with bowel

movements they allways advise to use stool softners and some lax

and call it constipation. My understanding is that not enough bile is

being processed...  The stool softners and lax dont work most of the time.

Does anyone have suggestions on what to use to increase bile flow

to help with this problem...

Thanks

Hello Cjohn,

Your message is not very clear. I hear the part about the bile duct cancer.

By the way, I've been involved with Bile Duct Cancer for approxomately 6 years and I think I can address most of your concerns.

You need to give us more information if you want specific answers.

I'm not able to address your message tonight, I will tomorrow (Friday March 13th) Of course it will be Friday here I have no clue where you are messaging from.

But just an quick answer...stool softeners are the answer. Increase bile flow...let's talk.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply..

My husbands symptoms started last August with Severe constipation

to find out as stated before finding last Sept. he had bile duct cancer.

Normal laxitive and doc prescribed laxitive will only work on the 3 or 4 maybe 5 day after. I have tried all of the laxitive available over counter doc prescribed, natural..

I have research to find the foods that are suppose to increase bile flow,

as of now he still has alot of trouble with constipation...

I feel the doctors are missing something...

Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

CJohnston

Good Morning CJohnston,

Okay, this is a little more information. I still see a lot of unknowns. Severe constipation started in August 2008...this could very well be a restriction in the large bowel and it may be very serious. Has your husband's doctor addressed this issue?

You also say your husband was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in September 2008. What has been done about the bile duct cancer issue, any surgery, where is the cancer located in the bile duct, any chemo or radiation (as you know chemo and/or radiation is not the way to go)

I see you mentioned food increases bile flow. The liver produces bile to help with the digestive system. The liver produces approximately 600cc's to 700cc's of bile per 24 hour period. Food dose not necessary increase the bile flow it activates bile flow. The lack of bile getting into your husband's duodenum can be because of the cancer in the bile duct. This should be a no brainer for the doctor's.

Something is not sounding right...His doctor should be able to handle this matter. Stool softener's work, my wife had to use them also, but the stool softener's were not the healing factor.

A serious sit down appointment with you, your husband and his doctor or doctor's must be done...I know I'm not hearing the full story with regard to the bile duct cancer situation, but what I am hearing is that maybe the doctor is not opening up enough.  Which hospital is your husband being treated. If you did some real heavy research, you know there are very few doctor's and hospitals that want to handle bile duct cancer. My wife was diagnosed at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California and given 6 weeks to live. As soon as the doctor's found the Klatskin Tumor in her Hepatic Ducts, they told us they could not handle the problem. They immediately sent her to UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco...that was in July 2003...my wife was 53 at the time and she is now 59 and doing pretty well considering the situation.

The doctor and hospital treating your husband is very important...this situation needs a specialist a very good specialist that deals with bile duct cancer weekly if not daily.

I hope this helped a little...

Leonard
