Nervous About Test Results

March 24 is a day I'm asking for prayers. My dad is getting his results back after 4 months of hormone therapy. His PSA was 25, Tumour Grade was a 7. He's 74. He is pretty much symptom free , seems relatively calm about everything and is in otherwise great health (cardiovascular, etc.) I'm the worried one. He has been on Eligard and Casodex now and this is the first blood work since his diagnosis. I am so worried...any idea of what I should expect. He doesn't even seem to have symptoms from the HT, which has me thinking - is it working?? Any words?? His doc said not to worry if his PSA goes UP....how can this be???

With hormone therapy PSA reduces to a very low number for most men, with at least some reduction after the first few months: if one product is not effective one of the alternative medications will usually work.

Not everyone experiences any of the POTENTIAL acute side effects: there are reasons why older men often do no have side issues.

Tests should be done to measure hormone blood  levels to check that the medication is doing what it should be.

Have you read the publication by Dr Myers on the subject ?

To my mind it's essential reading for anyone interested in hormone treatment.

Hi Worried Daughter2  he should do well he will find the psa test will show hes psa come down.  so it  should be low now. Prostrate cancer  or adenocarcinoma is gland cancer and it  is sex hormorne dependent with out testoserone  it starves. Hes symptom free because of his age hes body is use to a bit lower then normal  testoserone. He will  only have problems like  cardiovascular, etc if he stays on it long term. I take  red clover tablets they work because they  contain isoflavones. This minics testoserone and blocks the cancer receptors from geting testoserone so  stopping the testoserone from getting to the cancer cell.. I take four 40mg a day  for amonth then drop back to one a day for a month.. Hormone therapy blocks the whole body from geting testoserone but the isoflavone  in red clover and soy beans just stops it geting to the cancer cells  well take care all the very best I say a prayer for you and, your Dad  Ray

Thank you for the reply. I have tried to get my hands on the suggested book....we're in Ontario and it seems to not be available at any of our major bookstores...I will try Amazon on-line. Many thanks again.

Dr Charles Myers'  book is "Beating Prostate Cancer: Hormonal Therapy & Diet".

It is available via his website.
