LUPRON SIDE EFECTS

My dad is 82 and had his prostate removed some 20 years ago or so. He has seen the Doc's and there was discovery of some cancer cells in the prostate stem? and near/in his hip? He is not good at keeping me posted on exactly what is happening and in fact told me several years after the fact that he had had surgery for prostate cancer. At any rate, he had an injection of Lupron last week and is wiped out. Put three logs on the fire, lean on the mantle to catch his breath. Walk to the post office and rest three to four times. Walk up stairs, rest etc. He is overweight and out of shape but never has this been the case for his physical performance. Any suggestions? Is this Normal? He will speek to the Doc's this week but I thought I would post about it. I just found this website as a result of searching the net for Lupron.

Thanks for any help.

Several things can help, one being time. Lifestyle and remaining active are very important, although this  can sometimes be easier said than done.

If one medication causes severe side issues it can become necessary to try one of the other products available or use the therapy on an intermettent basis.

I always suggest reading the book by Dr Charles Myers on hormone therapy.

Bill,

Those could be some of the bad side effects, but its quite unusual to be happeneing this quick .I didn't start having the unusaul side effects until 8 weeks into it. Maybe because of his age its happening sooner. I would let your doctor know what is happening and maybe he could perscribe something for it. They now have ADT that takes effect immediately, maybe your dad had a newer, more advanced lupron. Any time your testosterine is eliminated you will have side efeects. They are very similar to menopause that a woman experiences, hot flases, bone loss, muscle loss, loss of stamnia, weight gain around the midsection, loss of cognitive function, nausea, and loss of libido. The fact that your dad is not in good physical shape could be a factor.

Hope this helps

Dan
