I LEEPed and lived to tell about it.

It has been one week since my first every LEEP and it was not as bad as all the scary horror stories that I read about online. It was not fun, and it is a bit humbling to be in stirrups this much, but it was a very quick proceedure.

I was awake and I did not even take the Valium that I was given since I drove myself to and fromt he appt. The doc inserts a speculum, and it was uncomfortable but did not hurt. Then she told me she was going to numb the cervix and she started to administer the shot. This was the only really uncomfortable pressure the whole time and it was very quickly completely numb. My heart did race and my legs were shaking She said this is expected and normal so just be prepared and know that it passes very quickly. By the time the proceedure was over I felt fine and was able to hop right up.I did not feel any pain at all during the proceedure. I was totally numb.

I took 2 ibuprofin before and a couple later in the day just because I was scared the pain would show up any minute...But it really never did. I felt a bit crampy for a few days but I have had worse menstrual cramps. My boss was convinced I needed 2 days off work but I think just taking the day off after the LEEP would have been fine...not that I minded laying in bed the next day :)

I have not bleed, had odor, or heavy discharge...yet...who knows. But I wanted everyone to know it is not as scary and awful as it seems. Please dont stress and  just be glad you are taking care of yourself. We will all get past this and be okay!

I'm so glad this went well for you, and I definitely hope you have clean margins. However, I have three questions.

1. Did you look at the lab report?

2. Did you get a thorough explanation of what you had, where it was located, how extensive it was, how many quadrants were involved, if it was in the endocervical canal, and if it was in the endocervical glands?

3. Did your doctor discuss the risks and benefits of all your treatment options - cryosurgery, laser, LEEP, and cold knife cone biopsy - before making a recommendation?

If not, please fire that doctor, immediately, and get a new one, as that doctor did not follow regulations. If your doctor did do all the above, I am relieved and grateful you have such a caring, ethical doctor.
