drusen

I now have drusen. I did some reading about the potential for developing retinal drusen in association with chemotherapies. Turns out that it is a concern with some drugs, and that usually the oncologist will recommend that you make periodic visits to an ophthalmologist during the course of treatment. With certain drusen formations there is some risk of retinal detachment, which can be sight threatening. Has anyone else developed drusen.

Thanks Sue

I don't have any answers for you, but did want to ask:  did they do a thorough eye exam on you, checking for macular degeneration? While yes, drusen can occur with some chemotherapies, it can also be a significant symptom of developing macular degeneration. While not as immediately threatening as the risk of a detached retina, it still is a debilitating eye condition that can be treated to some extent if detected early enough.  If you haven't had a very thorough eye exam since the development of these drusen, perhaps you should make an appt with a good opthamalogist.

I wish you the very best.

Thanks Tre,

Yes I did see an opthamalogist. The drusen are not in the macular degeneration area but I do have some signs of the degeneration. I have forward the doctors information to my oncologist and have finished my last treatment of chemos. Thanks Sue
