cyberknife

I am 67 with a stage 4 recurrance.  My original diagnonis was in 1989 for which I had a lung resection.  The cancer showed up again in the spring of 06.  I started on Tarceva in June of 06.  My doctor tells me it has controlled my tumors with little growth.  I've had several scans that showed a small amount of growth.  The largest hospital in our area has gotten machinery for cyberknife radiation.  My doctor has suggested that I have the procedure.  Has anyone else had the cyberknife procedure?  I would like to hear results and experiences. 

Also, when I read the boards people refer to their doctors perscribing meds for the tarceva rash and other side effects..Is it always the oncologist or does he send you to someone else.   I appreciate any feedbach you can give.

My mother is on Tarceva (3months) and she takes it at night around 9pm.  At around 6pm she takes benedryl and this has really helped to reduce the response.  She had a flare rash all over her body (as opposed to acne type rash).  She started out taking 2 benedryl and cut back to one pill per day.  This was suggested by the oncologist.  Sometimes I see people being referred to dermotologists.  Aloe face or body wash is also very soothing to skin.  Always use eucerin cream to keep skin from getting too dryafter showering.

 Cyber knife -Has not been suggested but I thought it was only used for brain?  There is a website called www.cancercare.com and they have registered nurses, oncologists, etc who you can chat with online too.

Get a second opionion if you are not totally confident with what is being suggested or lack complete faith in your doctor.

Had cyberknife on cerebellum tumor in October, have adenocarcinoma of the lung with metastasis.  Cyberknife reduced that tumor from over 4cm to less than 1 cm. Worst part was having the "mask" over my face and being perfectly still for 20 minutes.  No aftermath problems.  Continuing to monitor tumor with MRI, Oncology-Radiology hot to do whole brain radiation and I am firmly opposed.  There are no other metastasis present yet on MRI and whole brain has ~48% possibility of decreased mental function. 

Cyber Knife worked wonders for my girlfriends mother, She had brain cancer/tumor and the doctors said nothing else could be done and that she only had 6 months to live.

she took 3 treatments in one week and it is totally gone.

If you are a candidate, Your very lucky, I wanted my mom to have it but her tumors are to big in her lung,we have to get then shrunk before she can have it.
